It has always been on the heavy side, then the other day no assistance at all. It also appeared that the reservior was weeping, or was being pressured. I ran the enging with the pipe off and got plenty of pressure.
So the basics are there.

quite possibly the seals in the actual rack letting the fluid by, and not assisting the steering at all
this will be a rack out refurbishment,
as long as the metal components are in ok condition, the rack can be refurbished with a £25 kit, if you do the work yourself
or a refurb rack can be bought for about £150
pays ur money , takes ur choice jobby to be honest
