Sat Nav system

I have a 2011 reg XJL Supersport.
I am thinking of updating the sat nav system.
Does anyone have any experience of doing this and any suggestions / recommendations et.

Hi Timmarsh I can give you some advise about updating your Sat nav on the XJ.

1-First do not buy copies of updates USB sticks from eBay in fact not from anywhere it maybe tempting due to the price but things can go wrong so my advise is don't.
2-Buy your Sat nav here http://jaguar.navigation.com select your country and maps.Your need to supply your vin number.
3- when it arrives they will also supply you with a code you enter on the screen.
4-Slot the USB stick containing the navigation map data into the USB interface.
5-. Follow the instructions on the touch screen*.
6-. Enter the map activation code.
7- During the update of the navigation map data, navigation, entertainment and telephone features are not operational until the update is completed.
8-. The USB stick must not be disconnected from the USB interface during the update process.
9-. If the ignition is switched off during the map update, the update will continue automatically next time the vehicle is started**.
10-. Once updating is complete, a message is displayed on the touch screen. Press "OK" to restart the navigation system, and then remove USB stick immediately from USB interface.
11-. Allow 3 minutes for navigation to restart.
12- Exit, lock the vehicle and leave for at least 15 minutes before using the navigation system.
* The on screen instructions refer to "disk" during the download process of a DVD based system. The USB procedure is identical.
** An on screen instruction may appear on the touch screen giving instructions the "map update has paused", please press the "cancel" button to continue the update.
13- Your need to keep the car running all through the process and it can take a bit of TIME.
14-Just be patient when doing it and make sure you following the screen.

If the ignition is switched off during the download procedure the process will stop. When the ignition is switched back on the download resumes from where it left off. If the USB memory stick is removed from the USB port during the download process the ignition must be switched off, the vehicle locked/unlocked, the ignition switched back on and the USB memory stick re-inserted to enable the download to complete.

and, pls., what about the non digital SAT NAV for older XK8 model ('99)?

i certainly did Timmarsh on my own XJ.

i have never updated one on a XK8 my last xj the x350 old shape never had sat nav so cannot give any advise on this either.

Again Timmarsh updating the sat nav needs lots of patients be careful and make sure you follow the full instruction on the USB stick when it arrives. My also advise again is to keep the car running all through the update it may take time mine took 2 hours some more so be prepared and have lots of patients.

Many thanks waynelondon Ordered an updated version of the software from the website that you suggested and had delivered on 26th Jan. Installed today following your instructions ( and those supplied with the USB stick upgrade ). No problems and now works OK. As you suggested it did take rather a long time and it is rather concerning that the status bar stays at 0% complete for the first 15 minutes before jumping to 5%. I thought that something must be amiss and was tempted to stop the down load.( I guess you just get so used these days to fast downloads when you get a slow one you assume something is wrong) I didn't and was glad that my patience was not misplaced. Full download took about 3 hours with engine running as suggested. Thanks again for the advice, much appreciated.

Has any one had experience of updating a 2010 XJ Sat Nav?, neither I, nor Bristol Jaguar have any success in doing this. My up-date stick came from direct from HERE. George Reed
