Front suspension height drama

1969 4.2 Series 2 gearbox rebuild winter project:
I have just put the engine and gearbox back and everything is working well so far. I was careful to mark and replace the torsion bars exactly as they were.

Measuring the ride height from the lower wishbone, centre of the main bolt (as per a diagram I have found). On the passenger side it measures 9 & 3/8ths " from the ground and on the other side 9 & 5/8ths from the ground to centre. The bonnet is not fitted yet.

My questions is: Would being one spline out make that difference? Has anyone calculated what difference each spline makes to the ride height?

I do hope I don't have to do that job again!

Hello Azzura,

I am not an E Type man, but I would doubt that one spline will make a 1/4" difference. As the bonnet has not been fitted, I guess the car has not been moved? The supension will settle as the car is run a bit but even so I don't think 1/4" is critical?

Hi Alec,

As always in a bit of a rush I had not checked the tyre pressures. The car has been off the road for quite a time. Having pumped up the tyres measurements became great deal closer to each other so that will do I think.

My next issue is that the speedo drive is touching the body so trying to see what I can do to adjust the engine position slightly.

Something to do between mince pies!
