Yup

even i dont beleive it, after four years of cutting out the rotton sections of my XJS , you have all seen the horror picturs i have put up, i can officially say that i have , as of last night FINISHED WELDING ;D ;D 8-)

its been a long haul , and some times i didnt think i would make it, and four years is a long time, but well worth the effort ( i think ), she is still a long way from being driven , but its all down hill from now on , and i'm currently collecting parts for a complete rear suspension frame rebuild, i already have a new frame, and shocks, waiting for a complete set of new bolts etc, and am on the look out for four new mounting V bushes, but thats another story

i am sorry to all those that have had to suffer my ' rust ' adventures, as it may open your eyes to what is hidden under your shiny paintwork ::)

i will pop up some pictures later of the most resent project

but here are a few reminders,

BB,

Congrats! Although, personally I will miss your welding updates - as it always make me feel better about my car!!

Like many others here, I'm sure all your work and the very detailed photo record that you've amassed will make a great article for the mag soon.

I certainly have liked seeing your welding jobs, although i can not see the pics in some postings?
Just get a weird little box in the corner.

What am I / we looking at in the first pic? i cant make it out?
I am guessing its inside front wheel arch looking back prob passenger side?
But don't recognise the large triangular section.

I guess the question is, are you going to rush out and get your self another well rotted car to work on?
After all it's obviously been a good hobby for you.

I was curious but was the car free/cheap when you originally bought it?
And how much do you think you have spent in materials etc?

God only knows what the labour bill would be at an average hourly rate, must be hundreds if not a thousand man hours.
Well done look forward to seeing the finished job, I hope your not going to sell it as soon as its done.

If you want an XJ-S thats ends up being worth a million pounds........ buy one for five million!

I've enjoyed the journey BB, much easier being the reader then the author I'm sure

thanx chaps,

the first pic is under the headlight bucket on the drivers side, its where the washer reservoir is on a late HE V12 , as can be seen, it rots out quite easy and is unseen in there,

the car cost me £300 from my brother in law , he buggered off to Oz six years ago, and it sat outside my mother in laws house ( that i now own ) for two years before i bought it for a nominal sum, i knew about most of the work, mechanically its very good, and so were the floors/boot...

i suppose i have spent about £2.5k on her so far, she still needs a repaint that will cost £2k , so at the end of it she will be worth all her money , around £5k plus i hope , but as said, years of enjoyment

Hi there its Peter we met at Gaydon. Just checked out your pics once more. Very envious of your work!!!

If you remember it, then I wouldn't mind that repair section. Just let me know how much you need for it.

Thanks

Peter

Hadders,

your welcome to have the repair section for free, maybe just some cover for the postage, it weighs around 1kg or so,

i was lucky to get some XJS bargains this week , and will be listing them in the for sale / wanted section soon

as for my own XJS coupe, i'm gradually getting through some finishing work before prep for painting, i have been repairing around the factory fit sunroof, the rot had set in under the chrome trim, and getting parts for a twenty year old glass sunroof is proving to almost impossible, and the parts that are available are very expensive, ( £100 for the two seals , ouch )
