XF Wheels for X350

Postby CharlieS » Fri Oct 27, 2017 9:51 am

Rumour has it that XF Wheels will fit an X350,
I suspect it might not be quite as simple as that, however, anyone tried?
Cheers,
Charlie.

S-type, X350 and XF all share the same suspension components, hub details and to a greater or lesser degree, body clearance dimensions. Swaps for wheels across the model ranges are completely possible without too many problems. I`ve done X350 rims to S-type without any difficulty.

Stud PCD is 5X108 for all models. The thing to watch though is the ET (rim offset). That is the distance from the inside face of the rim, (ie where it mates with the hub flanges) to the outboard edge of the rim. I recall that 50mm is the maximum dimension before the outside of the rim hits the wheel arch. Most of the Jaguar bigger rims have an ET of 49mm. That means the rim will clear the arch by 1mm. As a miss is as good as a mile, fitting a rim with a 49mm ET offset, makes the project a "goer"!

You might recall my early silver V8 S-type which I fitted with X350 Custom, 19" five spoke rims. The ET was at the max dimensions discussed above. A tight squeeze, yes and I had to ensure that wishbone bush condition and tightness was maintained. Other than those points, I had no other issues.

I`d suggest you take off one of your wheels and find and note its dimensions. Rim diameter, J size (5J, 5.5J, overall rim width, ET, PDC etc, etc. You then need to decide whether you want to increase rim width and/or diameter. If you are just going to change the rim to a visually different appearance, then use your present rim dimensions and just look for replacements to those dimensions. If you have a "big brake" R model which has rather larger Brembo or Teves calipers, then you need to be careful that you obtain rims off a donor R model. Otherwise, the rims will not clear the calipers and the rim will be impossible to fit to the car.

If you are on the hunt for rims, try Eurojag as a first point of contact. They are helpful guys who know what parts fit what models. Have the last six digits of your VIN to hand if you phone them. Their prices are good and delivery prompt. Andy at Auto Reserve is also another good contact. Both have loads of alloys in stock. Then you have eBay. Always worth a look.

Hope that helps,

I had my X350 (XJ6) Summer tyres on 17" XF rims. Using standard Jaguar wheels from another model, the main thing to watch is brake caliper clearance; if you have an "R", 17" wheels will not clear, and on later ones, 18"s and 19"s may not. I found my spare set on Gumtree for £80.00; I doubt that I'll be that fortunate with the 20" Winter ones I now need for the latest toy.

Apologies, it's been a while. So if I read correctly, 19in XF wheels won't clear the callipers on an 04MY XJR? Which is a shame, because I think 19in XF Portfolio wheels could look really good...

Although, I have the early silver jaguar branded callipers, which may be slightly smaller I believe, so there may be hope,

You will be fine with 19" XF wheels on a 2004 XJR. I now have 20" Kalaminos on my 2008, which has the Teves brakes; there would be ample clearance to go down to 19", if I so wished.
