Alarm/ imobiliser

Any one know how to get rid of the alarm system. I have never used it,have never had a plopped but it is showing a constant drain on the battery. I have been removing the fuse when parked for a day or two. 1993 facelift 4.0. Peter. Bristol. .(my first appearance on here).

Hi Peter - sorry you've had no responses so far!
Just to get the ball rolling here's a couple of thoughts.
Do you store the car somewhere with power? If so have you considered using a battery conditioner to keep the battery topped up? Also have you considered the insurance implications if you remove the factory alarm?

Our 1991 facelift 4.0 has the same habit although I believe the cobra alarm is an after market unit.
My solution has been to use a discarnect on the battery. It works a treat stopping the drain and preventing theft. However, I too would welcome a recommendation regarding a battery conditioner as there seems to be so many out there to choose from.

Can't help as far as the alarm situation goes, but the immobilizer must be tied in to so many circuits, I'm sure that won't be easy and I agree with Davidr regarding insurance concerns. I can however recomend a NOCO battery charger/maintainer, I assume this is the same thing as a cconditioner, just NOCO say it's a maintainer (USA company) https://no.co/g7200, works well on my battery on the XJS if she's laid up for a spell. I brought it in conjuction with my NOCO Genius boost GB40, that never leaves the boot, best jump starter I've ever used. Both not cheap, but nice small and compact.

Although you may need to consider the insurance consequences, if you've got the standard Jaguar security system, you could just disconnect the multiplug from the security ecu. Naturally, you'll need to check the impact on the central locking etc. Depending which configuration you have, you may find that one of the causes of the drain is down to a low or failed backup battery on the alarm.

as regards a good battery conditioner, I'd recommend the MXS 5 from the Ctek range. It seems to have the best breadth of functionality for the money. I've got 4 of this model. Do note that there are huge variations on price being asked for them. You can pay over £100 but it's perfectly possible to pick one up for about £63 if you look around.

Thank you for your thoughts on this. I had a feeling it wouldn't be straightforward. The charger/conditioner I have had an output of 7.5a and the drain from the alarm seems to be the same. I think a 'discarnect' switch may be the answer although it's a pain recoding the radio and setting the clock every time.

Peter - 7.5amps is a serious drain and something must be wrong! Have you had it looked at? A decent auto electrician should be able to find the issue

I have a Ctek too but went for the mxs3.8 and it does the job perfectly. The only issue I had was it upsetting the wireless thermostat link to th3 central heating boiler!
