Hi all..
We parked our automatic '66 2.5 V8 nose down (but not particularly steep) on the drive a couple of days ago. When we went to reverse out, reverse would not select. The reverse light came on, and the engine revs dropped slightly but there was no characteristic 'clunk' and it clearly wasn't in gear. Forward gears would engage, but it was too close to the garage to move forward at all.
Ended up towing her out backwards and then, once clear of the drive, took her around the block. She went up and down the gears no problem, and - on return - reverse was working fine again. Any ideas what the cause might be, and to prevent a recurrence? She has the Borg Warner 35 'box. Any help appreciated!

Have you checked the transmission fluid level?

Hi, yep - all good on levels.Have you checked the transmission fluid level?
Re: Daimler V8 reverse problem
typical symptom that happens if fluid is low.. it may have been too steep for the gearbox oil pump to suck up the fluid and gain sufficient pressure.. since its 'fixed itself'' I'd not worry unduly.. but it may be wise to do a light gearbox service..drain fluid.. remove the pan.. remove and clean the filter..replace pan gasket with new and reassemble, then top up with new fluid..
