Ride height

Postby peterjohn77 » Thu Apr 03, 2008 9:58 pm

Sirs

I have just replaced the front springs and shocks on my 78 XJS and find the ride height is now some 2 inches higher than it should be. The guidance is for 6 inches clearance but it is now sitting at about 8 and there is a noticable slope front to back. There were some small shims on the springs which were reinstated, but they only summed to 1/8".

The springs were sourced from a reputable supplier (Manners) so should be the right rating. But this can be the only parameter?

Any advice please?

Ride height

Peter

Several people have reported that the springs 'settle' back after a little while. In fact some who have replaced them to cure low ride height report that they are back to square one in month or so.

How far have you driven?

And were these the "NEW British Manufacturer" ones that DM have been advertising recently?

The packing rings are said in the manual to make more than twice as much difference to the ride height as the thickness of the ring (never been able to get my head round that) but you'd need a fair few to get a two inch discrepancy.

Having said which, the 6" diemsnion is listed in my copy of the manual as a minimum rather than a target, so 8" isn't all that bad, is it?
