Hi all bit of a problem, and need advise
I have rescued a lovely 2000 v6 from death, and in the process of getting a1.
Having had all new floors , front and rear suspension, you name it it's had it.
Since getting the car I have noticed ruff idle weather warm or cold, so I did the following.
Replaced plugs, coil pack, breather hoses and elbows, inlet man gasket, still ruff idle, slowly getting worse.
Had the car plugged in today, and chap gave me some codes po301. Pi386 is advanced.
But also told me the cars software needs a update, and it should of been done by jaguar.
Is this true, or is he pulling my plonker
The coil packs I got from auto reserve , yes 2nd hand but were told been tested. Anyone have any ideas

Re: Ruff idle when warm or cold
On my 3000 V6 there is a small rubber inlet elbow at the rear of the engine that had a split in it from age/heat which caused the engine to stall but only when hot in heavy stop start traffic. It meant removing the inlet manifold for access and from memory there was a YouTube Video someone had posted showing the process which was very useful.

Hi Goss
I've already replaced that, just wondering if the car just needs a good thrashing, as its been standing for a few years before I got it, suppose it wont do any harm

Re: Ruff idle when warm or cold
Idle quality is often down to a partially choked air gap between the throttle body throat and the throttle plate. It gets covered in sticky black crank case breather residue which can eventually reduce the intake air to an insufficient volume.
I`d suggest you remove the air trunking to the throttle body then remove the sticky goo with spray carburetor cleaner and some soft lint free cloth. A SOFT toothbrush can also be handy. Do not damage the special coating on the throttle throat around the area where the throttle plate closes.
Also remove the MAF sensor just after the air filter outlet trunking. Again using carb cleaner, remove sticky gung from the hot wire. Spray only, NOT any hard tools. The hotwire should be bright and clean not covered in the black crank case grunge.
All petrol model Jaguar vehicle have a similar MAF and throttle arrangement. Keeping these parts clean will do much to make your car run better and be more fuel efficient.
