Daimler Sovereign S2 Clutch Slave Cylinder

I am having difficulty in getting the clutch to operate properly. If I leave the correct amount of play on the clutch the gears do not engage at any position of the pedal. I can adjust the slave cylinder right up (no play) and the gears will engage almost perfectly. I suspect the slave cylinder has a larger bore to that of the master cylinder so there is insufficient fluid volume to engage the clutch when the play is correct. With there being no play the bearing will be in constant contact and will wear prematurely. Does anyone know what slave cylinder is the correct one for the job?
