Does anyone know the correct resistance readings for a number of components?
I want to check a few parts with my digi meter, however i dont know what the correct resistance should be.
Parts i want to check are the throttle pot, water temp sensor, thermotime switch and air temp sensor.
Has anyone changed to the AJ^ replacement throttle pot? is it true it is digital?
as far as i was aware it is not digital, it is just a mod so that you can use a regular type pot.
Does adjusting the Idle speed on the auxilliary air valve require any other adjustments to compensate?

mrb39,
Remind us again what car you've got?
It's really helpful if you put the type of XJS you've got in your signature. And also if you select the relevant model and engine capacity from the boxes when you create a post. Then we can see easily which engine etc we're talking about.
Tks

I would like to do that but i dont know how to put my signature thing on?
Mine's a 87 3.6 manual.
I have found something in my workshop manual. for the throttle pot.
My manual is an old fashioned paper 1 that sit nicely on the manifold.
However the wiring colurs dont seem to match mine.
However, across to leads i get a constant 5K from open right thru to full throttle. which is right i think.
And across the the other two i get a swing from 280-300 ohms up to 5 k at full throttle.
I dont get a starting resistance of 180 like it says in the book.

To put a signature on your posts, go to "Your Profile" at top right of screen, and then amend it from there.
If you've got the Jaguar manual, a number of the figures for the sensors are in Section 19 of the Service Repair Manual.
Hope that helps, by the way, what is the problem that you're trying to solve?

Still plugging away at the fuelling/mixture problem.
Car runs fine apart from if you open the throttle hard by hand from low revs the engine losses power and revs drop.
If i keep the throttle open like this i can make the engine slow to the point it will cut out.
However if you build the revs up and then give it full gas she is fine.
On the road similar in that if i am driving along below say 2000 rpm and jab the throttle open the car hesitates and if foot is left to the floor the car kangaroo's a bit and ocassionally you can make it backfire.
However if i drive along at a higher rate of revs and give the car some welly she shoots of like muck of a shovel.
The interesting thing is that today while i have the air filter housing off to test the throttle pot.
And of course no air temp sensor connected, she seems to be improved or fixed?
Coincidence, or was one of my candidates (air temp sensor) to be ticked off list responsible?
Or is this just because no filter or housing, so getting lots of nice cool air?

Thats a new one on me. What Jaguar colour code is that one?

I suspect that's Alpine Green (709 (HES))...........years ago I had a 3.6 Coupe that colour - lovely shade, very subtle.
Unfortunately it leaked like a sieve
, after any amount of rain the interior was inches deep - sold it to someone who had a garage and wanted a summers day driver

mrb39,
Have you tried doing a plug chop immediately after the symptoms show? The difficulty is that plugs really only show the last few seconds of combustion. So you need to drive along at lowish revs, floor the throttle so that the car displays the unwanted behaviour for as long as possible, then cut the engine immediately. Obviously you need to do this in a location that is absolutely safe!!
Then pull the plugs out and see if the plugs are showing signs of weak or rich mixture. My gut feel is that you're not pulling enough air at low revs for the amount of fuel you're delivering. The fact that it gets better without an airfilter might support this. In what condition is your filter? Does it look clogged?
Also, if you can look up your paint and trim codes and eneter them in the register, that would be great. I think you'll find them on the label on the passenger b-post. We can then also verify the correct colours for you. Tks.
Good luck with the ongoing investigation!

Do you know where and to who you car went to?
Seeing you said it leaked like a sieve and i had my water problem.
It would be pretty weird if i had ended up with one of your old cars.
What was the reg?

Can't remember the buyers name or reg........this was years ago.
The car went to Lincolnshire and had WAAAAY over 40K on it
Perhaps Alpine Green cars (if that's your colour) are noted for leaking.

the reason i didnt think my car was not HES alpine green was because i had a touch up pen jaguar one too in that colour and that code HES.
But It was a terrible match.
However I have checked the label in passenger side door and it Is HES???
Very strange.
I have been looking for paint colour on car for ages and couldnt find it!
No wonder if it was hiding on the passenger side.
I never go there, just the drivers door 4 me.
I have since found out that catkin is possibly a top coat?
But what type of top coat, i thought the top coat was always just clear laquer?

Always bear in mind your car colour has been fading for twenty years or more..........if the paint -pen is the same shade but "brighter" then it will be correct. Check it inside the door reveals etc.
Do you know where all the ID plates are for the vehicle? If not I would advise that you purchase a proper XJS book/CD or two, tho' costly it will save you many posts on this forum in the long term
Good Luck
