out out black spot

Hi All
Anyone have any tips on removing black spot marks on a drop top inner headlining, or if you know a company in South Kent who might takle a cleaning. They are mainly in and around the loose cloth at the rear. We inherited them from the previous owner and they are all that really spoils an otherwise really nice cat.

It can be quite difficult to get that grey headlining immaculate as the surface is quite delicate and can discolour easily. I would start by using a soft clothes brush to gently agitate the mark in the fibres. Then carefully use a vacuum cleaner with a dust brush on the end. Then carefully use the hard nozzle on the vacuum. If you've still got marks, use a dry powder carpet cleaner and vacuum out. Then if it's still there use a foam carpet cleaner and use a damp cloth to clear. This is where you need to be careful as it may lighten that area more than the rest of the lining.

Are these mildew spots? If so, there is a mildew treatment from Furniture Clnic that I have used with success. It will kill the mildew and remove the stain - not always 100% but it will improve the appearance considerably. I used it with a REALLY soft brush as the fabric of the headlining is quite delicate.
Another suggestion is to try a steam cleaner.

Thanks davidr, yes definatley mildew spots, the jag was stored for 12 months, got a bit damp I think. I've noticed Furniture Clinic pops up on a regular basis in the forum, good link to have me thinks and yes, a really soft brush will be used.
I thought about a steam cleaner, but not got much room for manouvre in there with the hood up, I think I'll make it even damper.
