Hello,
I am a new member from the States. This is my first post and I have a question.
I have a bracket that is mounted with the air distributor box under the dash. I cannot find a reference to it in the Parts manual and as I recall when I disassembled my car nothing was attached to it. I thought it might have something to do with the radio or speaker but I don't see that either one attaches to this bracket. It is a mystery to me. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thank you.
Lin

Hi, have you got a picture taken a bit further away so that I can put it into context whereabouts on the dash area this is and compare to my original Mk2?

Hello Paul,
I don't have another good photo, but it is located dead center behind and slightly above the radio speaker grille. It is mounted along with the air distributor box on the interior side of the firewall bulkhead. Hope that helps.

Hi,
I think this bracket is to secure the front end of the small panels either side of the lower dash panel. The panels push forward to clip onto the bracket and secured at the top back end with the chrome screws.

Sorry they are not , the bracket is further back , the small panels screw to the speaker housing !

Re: MK2 Mystery Mounting Bracket at the Air Distributor Box under dash
Exactly. The bracket is too far back (toward the bulkhead) to be a mounting point for the upholstered console side panels. Ah, the search to unravel the mystery continues. Why would Jaguar mount this bracket? There must be a reason.

Re: MK2 Mystery Mounting Bracket at the Air Distributor Box under dash
I wonder , I have a box of odd bits that I never needed , as I changed from a Auto to manual , in the box was this earth strap , at one end there is a fixing for a cable , could the bracket be for a cable and earth combined , would be 2 holes in the bracket , left or right hand drive !

I am open to all possibilities, but I don't think that is it. Thank you, though!

Re: MK2 Mystery Mounting Bracket at the Air Distributor Box under dash
Just wanted to get back to the group. As Martec indicated and Brian Thornton corraborated with photos, it does look like the mystery bracket is in fact for locating and securing the "trim panels on the sides of the air distributor box under the dash." Interestingly enough it does not appear that the bracket, at least as far as I can tell, is listed in the Spare Parts Catalogue. Brian's photo of the clip on the trim panel is below:
