Corrosive brake pads

Damn pads! I don't know if the dust reacts with the salt but my front wheels are pitting quite badly. I should have washed them down sooner I suppose but as anyone with lattice wheels know its hardly a quick wipe over job. The rears, although just as dirty, cleaned up a treat. Another benefit of inboard brakes I suppose.
I was wondering if people here coat their wheels? if so using what, wax polish, WD40 something else.
