Ahh! The good old days

A nephew is always whinging how us 'older' ones had it far better as cars and houses were so much cheaper and affordable years ago.

Well, here is a pay slip of mine from 1972. For the week take home was £9 and that included 36p for using my own bicycle.
Yeah, I was rolling in it. Not quite enough for an E Type though even at the price they were back then. :x

Hehe...

In 1972 my parents were buying their first house having just got married. They could not afford to buy in South London where they had grown-up (Catford and Lewisham) so ended-up looking in far out places such as Thetford and Hastings. In late 1973 they eventually purchased a 3 storey town house in Hastings as affordable property was scarce and there was lots of gazuming. It was in the nick of time as I turned up in early 1974 :). The house was a princely sum of £7K.

I think that your nephew has a point about house prices today though. Its bonkers in most home counties - I could bearly afford to buy my own house now - even though I earn a lot more now than what I did when I purchased! Don't get me started on the lack of final salary pensions, student debt and so forth.... :D
