R Performance Brake Backplates

Anyone know where I might get a pair of front R Performance backplates? Mine are somewhat rotten!

The listings I have looked at for S-type, XKR, XJR and XFR all seem devoid of dust shield parts numbers for Brembo equipped cars. No problem finding other parts for the braking system though which is rather strange.

These aluminium plates do indeed rot. I think you may need to talk to a Main Dealer Parts guy or perhaps Manner, SNG Barrett or may be Wayne in Parts at XJK. He is pretty hot on a parts search. I imagine that there are few requests for these shields as they are not regularly replaced parts and demand will be small.

The other option would be to call Eurojag and see if they have some good condition second hand units in stock. That would be a cheaper option.

You will also probably need the fixing pop rivets...possibly the typical Jaguar 6mm x 18mm that are rather difficult to obtain. I know that XJK and also Graham at Black Country Jag have some in stock. They are about £2 a rivet and need large tong or squeeze pullers to fire them off.

Perhaps Mike H can help further.

If you can find the part numbers, I`d certainly be interested in logging them.

Thanks for the information and suggestions Mike K. Pete at S&P told me the parts are not available any more. All the usual outlets seem to confirm this . I see that XJK has one piece at £150!! I have emailed SNG Barrett and registered interest at Jaguar Classic Parts.

Try this link. I obtained this just by typing the part number into my Google browser. Do check availability by phone before placing an order. Often listings are out of date as regards stock holding.

The part does not fit the X350 but is applicable to the XK8 with Brembo units and also the earlier X308R of the same time line period.

Suggest you have a word with Rob Jenner who is compiling a list of NLA (No longer available) parts and will be discussing with Jaguar Classic Parts.

Looks like Eurojag might be a solution for second hand replacement. Also worth talking to Andy at Auto Reserve who may be able to find good second hand replacements.

Found some listed on Jaguar Palm Beach,Florida website. Only $176 each! How come they have them and no UK suppliers have any? Mind you, at $176 I can't see them selling out very soon...

They may well be old stock. Remember, some of these sites list parts but when you attempt to buy them, you find that they are not available. It is a fairly frequent occurrence to find sites which have not updated their stock holdings.

$176 = £143.40 today. Mightily expensive by any measure!

Found a pair on eBay for 50 quid, delivered. Am going to get them blasted and zinc sprayed at a local unit.

Being, I assume, aluminium, Mike, You will probably find they will clean up well with Scotchbright or with a typical domestic plastic pot scrubber. I`ve often two pack etch primed and then flatted down before re-finishing with a 2K spray paint. Alternatively, anodisation rather than zinc spray would be better in my opinion. Zinc spray is usually more suitable as an anodic sacraficial paint on steel surfaces.

For info, 1K spray paint is single pack normal air dry paint and 2K is epoxy or other base two pack thermo setting paint. An ebay search for aerosol spray paint will reveal plenty of choices.

Halfords and other outlets sell Upol#8 spray etch primer for small monies. Its a very useful product for getting good adhesion on aluminium components which can be tricky when it comes to obtaining adhesion.

Just my humble take on the matter.
