HI Everyone I hope the New Year will bring you all you wish for. I’m bringing my car over from Spain again this year for 2 months (I’m retired).

NOW Can anyone help please? Recommend a GOOD specialist workshop for servicing my baby; I also need a body shop for a small problem received at last year’s Southern day. If possible in the Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, and West Sussex areas.

Advice please on running my car on semi synthetic oil, at the last oil change
The Specialist put in standard castrol instead of replacing the semi synthetic as I asked for, Currant mileage 30,000.

Now can I help one of you?
When I come over I need to buy a run-around banger, It must be automatic, priced £700- £1250.00 and viewing about maximum ,40 miles from Hurn Airport Bournemouth.

Lastly has anyone had experience of a wheel refurb company by the name of Spit and Polish based in Tonbridge Kent.

Hi Peter

A Very Happy New Year to you and all your family :D

I can recommend Swallows Jaguar at Rooksbridge in Somerset, junction 22 on the M5, approx. twenty miles south of Bristol, they have been servicing and repairing my XJS cars for quite a few years now and are familiar with the marque. Not TOO far a run from Bournemouth and a nice cross country drive.

Sorry to hear you need a bodyshop - did you manage to crash after I left you at Southern Day??? I can't recommend one of those yet (thankfully).

I'm sure I can buy a banger run-around for £500.00 and sell it to you for £1250, I'll even deliver it............just how big an engine do you want........perhaps a nice 2.9 Auto 24V Cosworth Granada would fit the bill.......

I look forward to seeing you again in 2008, perhaps there will be a Forum do for you to attend whilst you're here 8)

Best Wishes

You could try Jagcare in Portsmouth. They've served me well in the past
Also for wheels try Solent Wheels near Romsey

Thanks David M,

I will talk to Jagcare they would be very handy. I have tryed Solent wheels, the only problem is they cannot do Diamond cut as my Star fish alloy are, The nearest I can find are Spit & Polish in Tonbridge Kent for £48.00 per wheel.

All the best for the new year.

Peter,

HNY!

Spit 'n' Polish in Tonbridge is very near me and I have been tempted to try them out first on a spare wheel that I have. I might pop down in the next few weeks. If so, I'll let you know how I get on. Just being a bit pedantic but you have diamond-turned 5-spoke alloy wheels. The Starfish alloys are the painted ones fitted to the early HE cars.

Are you sure that your "specialist" put in standard mineral oil? As a minimum, I would expect any decent servicing agent to use at least Castrol Magnatec, which is a semi-synthetic oil, in an AJ16-engined Jag. I'm very surprised that a specialist would not use at least semi-synthetic when servicing your car.

For what it's worth, I started off running my car on 10W/40 semi-synthetic. But for the last 2 years I've been running it on 5W/40 full synthetic, as the price of full synthetic oil seems to have droppped considerably in recent years, and I'm sure the AJ16 engine is built to tight enough tolerances to work ok with it. I also change it every 5000 miles as I'm not doing more than 4-5000 miles a year at present in the Jag.

Regards

Paul
