XJS For Spares Penrith

Postby PeterDavisX300 » Thu Oct 20, 2016 9:47 am

Whilst on holiday this week I saw this scrapyard with an XJS Ragtop amongs its residents. The scrapyard is Edenhall Autosalvage CA11 8SR 01768881624. The chap seems friendly enough, and you can go and look at the cars if you speak with him first. Maybe members already know of this yard, and the car?

The XJS looks surprisingly good, the interior is dry and free from bad damage, the seats look worn but no rips the rest is there. The bloke says he started the engine easily at the tail-end of last year. The last tax-disc had 709 AHR written on it for the plate, (I suspect there was a prefix letter) As you can see the plate that's on it is different. There's little rust on the bodywork, no front bumper. Just thought I'd put up a couple of pics.

Site wouldn't let me put a fourth pic up, one of the engine. So here we are.

Peter,

Tks for this. It looks like the car came off the road in 2009 due to corrosion of front subframe and what might have been rear radius arm mount corrosion. Sadly because the car has been off the road for a few years, that private plate will also be lost unless the XJS goes back on the road again. It does make you wonder whether it's worth someone saving the car just to get the registration?

Cheers

Aye. I'm not sure whether I'd be personally giving a hoot about the registration, more that the car didn't look too bad, and the chappy said the engine run less than than a year ago. Surely even stuff like the rear lights and bumper etc are worth saving? The interior looked quite good as well. Never mind, but if I had an XJS I'd take the whole car and salvage what I could, but I have certain skills.
