Back on thread again now with details of the new V3 Sprint Booster unit that has just come on line today. Mine is I hope is due to be delivered soon.

This now features 9 setting levels in Green mode for everyday use and 9 levels in Red mode for race type response levels.

Most interesting is an additional Valet mode which can be activated by the owner to de-tune the car when in the hands of hotel parking attendants, car wash boys or others who may be given the charge of your pride and joy.

Also featuring on the new device is the ability to electronically de-activate the throttle pedal completely and make the car impossible to drive. Quite useful I think you will agree. Even if a casual thief were to have taken your keys and started your car, the unit will de-activate the throttle pedal effectively making the car impossible to move. Whilst a professional thief might be aware of how this unit works and know that all he would have to do is pull out the Sprint Booster from the throttle pedal and remove the unit from the circuit, most thieves would probably cut their losses and move onto an easier target.

The good part is that the unit has arrived, been fitted but despite my best attempts ie installing and checking three times, there is no communication between the plug and play unit and the control. I`ve removed the unit from the car as it is presently totally USELESS.

An email has been sent to Telematica asking for advice. It is a shame as the unit hs previously been given rave reviews. Perhaps there is some compatibility issue.

Feeling a bit miffed presently.

Yes, I did find my own hackles rose as a result of the "no go" problem. although only a five minute install, the one thing I hate is having my time wasted.

Had a mail back from Telematica suggesting the control unit was "broken" and that a replacement would be sent. I`ll wait with bated breath.

 we are already there !!!
So annoying when people" shrug their shoulders" when a problem is pointed out to them ! Once, seems like long ago now, customer service was top of the list but now if the " computer say no" that's it :(

I was waiting with " bated breath" too, for the results of your install , hoped it would bring an interesting result.

As you say having our " limited" time wasted by so called service industry and the suggestion it's " broken" is typical of suppliers who don't understand what they are selling anymore :?

Telematica actually make the unit and it has had excellent reviews. They are supposed to be sending me a replacement control but whether that materialises is another matter.

You may recall I had a similar issue with the Mina cold air pipe sent from the States. That had the wrong part breather pipe and the rubber collar joining the pipe to the MAF tube was too short by an inch. Although replacements were promised neither turned up.

Buyer beware I think, especially if buying from sources outside this country.

After a bit of faffing around via email to Telematica, a complete replacement unit arrived yesterday.

Up bright and early this morning, I removed the carpet along the bottom of the dash roll and fitted the new Sprint Booster V3. As I turned the ignition on, to my joy the control unit illuminated and I was able to set enhancement values to a full 9 on the Green and Red programs. The slide switch for auto transmission was also set to the correct position. The car started on the button and idled and picked up normally with the unit set to the non illuminated "off" position. One prod of the main selector switch turned on the Green program. Touching the throttle, response was definitely quicker. Going to the Red program made response faster again. Most interesting.

Out into the rush hour traffic in Green, there was no doubt that the car picked up better and less throttle pedal poking was required to accelerate at a quicker pace. Without doubt a significant improvement. Once onto the dual carriageway out of town, I hit the Red program. Wow!!!! Talk about ripping up the tarmac and the tyres!! Being a tad damp on the road, the car got a bit squirally!

Even with the Red program still in use, the car is not a brute in traffic. It is all quite controllable. But hit the loud pedal and you are off at a rate of knots. It takes about a a couple of seconds or so from 20mph to get the charger howling and little more time to get the revs up to the orange sector on the tachometer. The effect of the Sprint Booster is little short of sensational! That is no exaggeration. This unit works as described and could well prove to be something of a cheaper alternative to having a car given a performance re-map. It really is good and lands itself a Mike awarded Gold Medal as my best buy product of the year.

PTJS1 and I had a long chat this morning following my road test. Like me, he likes to know how things work. Later this month we hope to link up when I`m up in his neck of the woods and plug our diagnostic kit into the OBD port. The intention is to gather response information as regards throttle reaction opening times, percentage values, etc, etc. We hope to be able to graph plot our findings and gain a fuller understanding as to how this wonderful gizmo manages to speed up throttle input which makes for quicker access to a great lump of torque which appears difficult to source from the standard throttle pedal.

Although it has been a long wait to get this unit replaced, it was well worth the effort with Telematica who eventually came good. Quite clearly the original unit was defective with the problem, in my opinion, being down to a poor connection of the fly lead socket adjoining the internal PC board. I noted that it moved around slightly and that the issue was not present on the replacement unit. I`d add that the socket could perhaps be more soundly secured within the fly lead control unit and that its construction is rather delicate. As such, when installing the device, extreme car needs to be taken to avoid straining the connection point. Once installed with the control cable run along the bottom of the dash roll and with carpet re-fixed, there should be little reason for the connection ever to experience excessive strain. I`ve fitted the control unit using a supplied piece of double sided tape just above the top of the car control switch panel, with the cable just being pushed between the padded dash trim. It is so discrete that you wouldn`t notice its presence.

Advice on buying. Avoid ordering direct from the Telematica site even with the Paypal facility. Although I established contact with the sales guy in Greece, communication is by way of pigeon English by phone. Telematica also sell via eBay so that is perhaps a more secure way of ordering with an easier and more secure method of getting satisfaction if issues arrive. Whilst I did eventually obtain a working unit, getting it had me frequently frustrated with the somewhat laid back level of response. I still have the defective unit with me here and I`ve promised to return it, albeit at my expense and effort.

Would I buy another unit and should I recommend it to other members. The answer has to be a yes as regards performance but a rather less enthusiastic affirmative when it comes to the weakness of construction around the fly lead socket. So 10/10 for performance but only 7/10 for construction. Even at that lowish level, provided you are careful when it comes to installation, I see no reason for not buying the product. I shall be mailing Telematica again to confirm that I received the replacement unit and to suggest that the control fly lead socket could do with some beefing up. Other than that the Sprint Booster V3 really is a cracking piece of kit.

Out on the road this morning with one of my best customers, Danny, at the wheel of the XJR. He was totally awestruck with not only the car but also the Sprint Booster.

Just to wake him up, un-sportingly I set the control to the full on Red9 level to begin with. You should have heard the remarks as he pulled away for the first time! I must admit to being very cruel to him as that setting is very aggressive and rather uncompromising on a wet road. I dropped it back to my favourite Red5 which is quite controllable and imparts a good response without the massive punch of Red9.

Danny described the car as akin to eating a kebab with double chili sauce and extra onions but without a beer to wash it down! He tells me an XJR is on the cards as his retirement starter.

I see the Sprint Booster as the performance transformer. It is a stonking piece of kit and I`m very pleased with it.
