Installing Electrics for X308 Towbar

Postby rod3751 » Mon Mar 07, 2016 8:21 pm

I have recently purchased a used genuine Jaguar manufactured tow bar for my 2002 X308 3.2 se from ebay. I have yet to fit it but have done some research and all seems straight forward for the actual mechanical work of fitting the towbar to the car. Providing all the bolts come undone i do not have a problem attempting to fit it myself.
However the electrical connection seems to be a lot more complex, and if not done by a competent person, could cause me a lot of grief. I have come across a couple of threads on another forum which details a dedicated "yellow" coloured connector in the boot fusebox, (next to the battery), specifically for the towbar connection. I have identified what i think is the(only) yellow female connector in question?
I would dearly love some feedback/information from you guys as to whether this is indeed the connector that jaguar have hardwired in to correctly connect up the towbar. If it is, then there should be a male plug connector available to connect into. Does anybody have one for sale or know where i can get one?
It was suggested that you could splice the towbar wires into the jaguar wiring on the yellow connector, but there does not look a lot of space for the splice connectors for this option.
What looks like a diy module containing several relays was supplied with the towbar but no instructions as to its purpose or fitting instructions was received.
I have fitted towbars to my previous XJ40 and X300 jags including the electrics using the supplied bypass modules but the X308 is more complex and i wouldn't like to get it wrong.
I would not hesitate using a competent auto electrician if out of other options but would like your comments and expertise first please.
