Advice/Recommend aTrickle Charger

I am taking my XK8 off the road this winter for the first time,

It will be stored outside under a purpose made multi layer cover ("Noah" from The Cover Company)

I want to rig up a trickle charger from an outside power source, all cabling electrics are as waterproof/resistant as possible

However the charger even if located in the boot or under the cover will still suffer from extremes of temperature in the event that winter ever arrives this year.

Can anyone recommend a fairly robust trickle charger at a sensible price that might be suitable for the job.

More than happy to give feedback on the cover, charger,set up to members once I get sorted

Many members here use one of the small Ctek units which are purpose designed with switch mode management circuitry to ensure correct management of a battery and car whilst in long term storage. These units are common within the marine industry for boats where similar cold, damp conditions exist. They are totally waterproof and well insulated.

Much has been written about use of such units which have proved totally reliable in service. See posts on S-type, modern XJ and XK8 Bulletin Board electrical sections for loads of other good advice.

There are many manufacturers of similar charger units. See web sites for Ctek, Victron, Master Volt and Sterling International. I install many Sterling units on boats during the course of a year and reference to their site will fully explain how the units work and give good general guidance. Most of these units just require connection to a battery and 240v mains supply and require no other maintenance in use apart from very occasional checking of battery electrolyte levels. There is no need to remove a battery from the car to use such a unit. Indeed power left on a modern Jaguar is very desirable when keeping electronic systems on a car "live" when the car is not in use. Long term disconnection appears to cause more electronic issues than it solves.
