XJS Forum First Annual Bash 2008?

Dear All

At the risk of boring you all silly again with my thoughts on the Forum meeting up at a once a year do, they are as follows...........

1 There seems a reluctance to attend JEC rallies as a group and this is not encouraged by the JEC anyway. (Norman, Paul - I know we should petition the Club for XJS parking and so we will. (But when you've seen one Jag..............)
Also I think there is a difference between "model type" parking and "XJS Forum" parking, after all, apparantly more JEC Members own an XJS than any other model. This Forum however seems to have a harder core........

2 Wings and Wheels Day at Turweston is in the middle of the Country (with apologies to Scottish and Overseas members)

3 There is a variety of cars to see, plus bikes, aeroplanes, auto-jumble,etc.

4 If we were to say, SOON, that this would be our once a year "do" we could all plan for it , so we might get a half decent turnout - say...........ten cars?

5 North Oxon. JEC would support us , I'm sure.

6 If there is no support for this idea, that's fine, at least it's been aired and rejected.

7 I still think that Forum members would like to put a name to a face - "given the opportunity"

That's all from me folks :D

DH
I agree with this idea, there is never a place to meet that would be central for everybody and that is a shame as it would be a great sight to see all xjs's.
Also if the same applies every year at the venue with regards entrance fee, then you are able to donate what you can afford which is a great way to encourage people to attend. No £18 entrance fee and £8 to park like some places i could mention.
What does everyone else think.

Hi guys,

I don't need many excuses to fill the tank and point the Cat's nose at the horizon!

I'd like to meet the characters on this board and see some of the cars, too.

As you say, there appears to be a harder core of enthusiasts on this forum so I think it'd be interesting to meet up sometime next summer.

I've gotta get my inner front arches welded before that though ;-)

I think a specific forum meeting is an interesting idea if rather optimistic at this stage. Nothing will change until more forum members actually turn up at the events already organised.
The national JEC events (Northern, Southern & Midlands?) would give the best opportunity for British members but special space won't be allocated unless there is commitment not just to fill it, but also to marshal and organise it.
There are many local events to which JEC members are invited although I have found that 'some' are less welcoming to strangers. Whatever event we find ourselves at, please get and display your Forum card in your windscreen. See thread :
Forum Card
so that at least you will know who's xjs it is. Nobody is going to stand by their car all day, but at least if they are nearby it is easier to recognise a Forum member.
We're already fairly good at publicising events here, but if anyone is involved with both regions or outside classic clubs and is planning on going somewhere, let everyone else know.

I don't think it's too far-fetched...........
If we had the date/event fixed eg Turweston, Me, Simon, Graham, you, possibly BB, Paul and Norman - that's seven already.
Ever the optimist

Pop,

Good post! I'm with you on this one. If people aren't interested in coming to major JEC events such as Northern or Southern day, then I guess one has to wonder if a Forum specific event would actually garner any more interest?

On this topic, you may recall the great day out we had last year doing the French booze cruise, including members coming down from Nottingham and beyond. Well, Norman is organising another one this year which hopefully will be advertised later this week on the BB. We were significantly over-subscribed last year so remember to book early this year!

Hey dh, having a bad day?

As we all know, thinking of events to organise isn't that difficult, but will people turn up? You can lead a horse to water...

In the end, we all get the club we deserve..if you see what I mean.

So in future, whenever two or more XJSs are seen together, we shall refer to it as an XJS Forum event!

I think an xjs day is a good idea but you will need to have something to tempt people rather than lots of xjs owners chatting Turweston is a great day but if vintage aircraft dont float your boat or motorbikes( hard to believe I know) not many will make the effort.
An xjs specific autojumble maybe plus a couple of experts in fields that owners would be really interested in. Xjs owners are so varied , some handing the car to a friendly independent jag garage when mysterious light appear on the dash to owners who have rebuilt from nothing but a rotting shell( bit rare those). There are always a few jag autojumble guys at Stoneleigh . It might be worth asking them if they would be interested in turning up .

Paul

Sorry, no not having a bad day - just a bit hacked at the level of enthusiasm for a meet-up.

HOWEVER We do seem to be getting to a point where there are enough people "showing an interest" that we could think about organising something for next year..............
........couldn't we???

Optimistic again :)

Stonleigh spares day is soon. Perhaps we can get enough of us gathered around Paul and Norman to completely block up the corridor this time
