Thumbing through a KWE advert, one of their statements made me ponder.
"The XJS is a unique design by Malcolm Sayer, not derived from an existing shape and never copied. This makes it one of the most important sports car designs. We have no doubt that this will become as sought-after as the E type is now, and is certainly a more accomplished car. Superb aerodynamics give the car a very high top speed and enormous appeal."
Although the XJ-S has lived in the E type's shadow for many years, perhaps time will justify the XJ-S design to the general public. After all, with todays euro-boxes all looking identical, tell me what other affordable car looks anything like an XJ-S?

Hi Pop,
You are absolutely right of course, the XJ-S has never been copied nor matched in style, although a few sports cars have made attempts to emulate those delightful flying buttresses with limited success.
In its own unique way, the XJ-S is as beautiful and stylish as the E-type, but significantly more comfortable and usable.
It still turns heads as it passes and the rising prices of good examples suggest it is beginning to achieve the same level of desirability as the E-type and the Mark 2.
They may not be so affordable in a few years' time.
Regards,
Glenn.

xj-s market drops!
Pop
On tour today dropped into NM Jags and looked at an XK8 (as you do) salesman informed me he could not offer my expected trade-in value as "the bottom has dropped out of the XJ-S market recently as XK8 prices come down to more affordable figures and XJ-S owners trade up"
In any event, at 6'1" I found it very difficult to fit in the XK (you may think the XJ-S is cramped) - wow is it small inside there! But in Ice Blue it was very pretty.
I don't care, next week, I pick up my Jet Black '95 Celebration
......but that's another (very long) story.
Anyone want my high-miler 89 3.6 coupe?

Sorry to tag onto your post - perhaps this should be a new thread? I tried to move it but couldn't master the technology!!! DOH

XJ-S design
I have a 1988 signal red Jaguar XJ-S Convertible with magnolia upholstery and as far as I am concerned the appearance of this car far outweighs an E-Type. Personally, I think the E-Type is mainly popular because it was introduced in the 'Swinging 60's'. In my opinion, the XJ-S will prove to be the Jaguar to buy in years to come so hang on to yours.

Welcome to the forum
Personally I don't think the XJS will ever outshine the E-Type as the latter has become an icon of design - how many people have rated it as the most beautiful car ever made? etc. That's fine I think, as it deserves it's place in history.
The XJS WAS NEVER an E-type replacement, but was, rather, a different concept. Having owned four over the years it goes without saying that I think it's a fantastic car for so many reasons that I won't start to try and list them. Suffice to say that at any time that I half think about replacing it I have to answer the question - with what? The answer is invariably................another different/better XJS!
We are very lucky in that being a two car family we can also run a saloon (Ford Scorpio Cosworth
) thus avoiding one of the prime drawbacks of XJS ownership.
I clock up approx. 16,000 miles a year in my XJS and love every minute of it.
Best Wishes

Year in and year out I ask myself the same questions.
What car shall I get next? Maybe its time for a more modern car? Is it time for something newer?
and every time I observe the cars on the road and think........."God they all look the same!"
Na, I'll keep the XJ-S a while longer. lol
