facia vent not working

Postby kevinhafner » Wed Aug 29, 2007 10:12 pm

Still having problems getting the facia vent working. Have replaced the bulk of the internal bits and pieces and spent at least 60 hours with a couple of local jag specialists.
I also only have luke warm air to the demist setting and the hot air out of the floor vent is not as hot as it should be.
Does anyone know of a local specialist that has got some diagnostic equipment to pin point the fault? I have tried a spare ecu so I can only think the fault is electrical rather than mechanical.
I live in the southeast, any ideas?

facia vent not working

Sorry, I can't help with a specialist but I've known of three XJS's (two from 1987 and one a bit later) and none of them had a working centre vent.

I remember once, while driving in one of them the flap moved and air started pouring out but it soon closed again and that was that!

I've grown used to this from the XJS and simply don't expect the centre vent ever to work.

If you get if fixed I'll be most interested in what the solution was!

Good luck!

Kevin

Facelift car with the Delanaire MkIII ?

If so, I had a similar problem with the centre vent not working and only ambient temp air.

The centre vent issue was caused by the vac pipe to the actuator having come out of the polythene connecting sheath at the back of the temp control switch. You can see it if you remove the cheek panel.

The temp issue in my case was low refrigerant but yours sounds more like a lack of hot water to the matirx, is the water valve opening fully?

thanks, I'll give that a go over the weekend when I get 5 minutes. I assume you mean the side cheek that is in the foot well on the drivers side.
I have had it working for the first two I owned her. I can get cold air just trickling out when the fan is on max so I think it must be a case of the flaps not opening properly.
Again I have had good heat coming from the floor vent in the past so maybe I'm now getting a blend of air when switched to 85 degrees rather all hot air.

Kevin,

This may be a red herring but you do know that on the late systems the centre vents can only blow cold air, don't you?

Have just got mine working, it now works perfectly.
Checked connections vacuum etc all seemed ok.
Took car out of garage and left car warming up heater was set on auto at 24 fan speed 1 up till warm air comes from vents that are working.
Then turned heater setting to cold and swithched on air con and then fan to 2.
After a few minutes the centre vents opened fully b lowing cold air.
All works now hope this may be of some use.
:D
