P Digital 1980

Postby tippers » Wed Aug 01, 2007 5:50 pm

Last week I purchased a Pre HE P Digital 1980 and wondered if there were any other owners out there to share info.

It was quite hard to confirm the fact that the car was a P Digital and there appers to be some confusion as to build dates and identification.

The car is rough but will save, having being painted with a hoover! but with a vey good red interior.

I am also looking for a set of Kents for it!!

P Digital 1980

Postby kelsham » Thu Aug 02, 2007 3:11 pm

Hi welcome to the xjs forum, the p digital model was an interim model and only produced for a short time. I was offered one some years ago but the asking price was too high for me. I believe it delivered more power and slightly improved petrol consumption over the pre he car. doubtless there are still a few cars out there. I believe it used a vac connection to the ecu. instead of to a sensor on the inner wing. regards Kels

Aah.........silly me

Kent alloys crop up on e-bay fairly regularly so you need to keep a watchful eye open
Do try to get a set with the centre caps as these can be like rocking horse do-do. (Although by coincidence there is a set (new/repro I think) on e-bay NOW (£55.00 !!)

P Digital 1980

Thanks for the response I have now found the guru of the P Digital........AJ6 Engineering gave me the following info:

Increased compression to 10:1
Lucas not Bosch computer
Increased BHP to 313
No control box amplifier on the rad x member
Injectors Grey/Black not green
Fuel Filter in the boot.

So we have a pre HE with the characteristics of a HE,with added performance.

The car seems to go quicker than my other Pre HE`s but needs work.

Body
Front and rear suspension
Engine tune

Interior and floors good.

A nice little project.

I was aslo informed by Jaguar that the engine numbers weree QS16400 to 18001 on that basis they made quite a few of them. However it could be that some went into HE models. They were unable to confirm build dates, mine was a May 1980,which is before most of the published introduction dates.

The project continues and the search for further fascinating facts ,by us all ,on this subject will occupy us through the wind and rain of this great British summer......................sad B`s as we are.

Tippers,

Just to add a little more "anorak" input - the engine nos for the P-digital begin with 8S, not QS, and they usually have HA or HB after the numbers, whuch indicates the piston types.

Welcome to the world of sad b's!!
