Excellent! I may have to come in the Alfa as the XJRS isn't back yet and some SOB ran into the back of the X Type today (and then drove off).

Steve - I'm happy to pick you up on the way through if you like. I'm practically coming past yours anyway

David, thanks for the offer but it looks as if I will be up in Norfolk collecting the car; if I can get there Friday evening I'll try and set off really early to make it.

Ok, not totally off the cards yet.
Just have to suffer the indignities of public transport from Wiltshire to Norfolkshire and then drive back.
Easy Peasy.
186 miles should be about an hour and a quarter (excluding pasty breaks).
Should be back in time for tiffin and croquet.
Get up in the morning, couple of crumpets and then off to the Cotswolds to kick some tyres.
And then a massive bacon bap!

Ok, scratch that.
Went up to Norfolk and the car looks absolutely fantastic, the bodywork looks almost new and has polished up a treat; unfortunately it sounds like a bag of spanners and is misfiring badly so I couldn't get it back.
David reckons that Waxoyl has dripped onto the new crank sensor and is upsetting everything.
Having said that, when it almost ran properly it sounds absolutely monstrous without the centre boxes and the TWR twin tail pipes; can't wait to give it some large.
Handling is much improved with the new DB7 suspension bits at the back as a tyre squealing run around a roundabout demonstrated. Just need new front shocks now.
David kindly lent me a 2 litre diesel X Type saloon to get home in and I was quite impressed with the performance, especially in 3rd gear.
Now have to wait until the spanner man gets back Monday to see what is wrong with the lump.
The boat is away for a few weeks too so got no toys to play with at the moment! Still, back to work Wednesday so I'll have to hang on for a couple of weeks yet.

Oh. That's a pity. I was looking forward to seeing the beast rejuvenated.
I ran a diesel Xtype for 3 years and I always enjoyed it - glad you've discovered it too.
See you tomorrow. I won't be very early - need a couple of hours in the office first thing.

Too depressed to go, no XJS and the place we have been on holiday for the last 2 years (just booked to go again) has been shot up by some nutter.
Lie down in a darkened room somewhere until the pub opens I think.

if the car is running, then the crank sensors don't do anything once running , and it would be unlikely be any waxoyl causing an issue, as it wouldn't interfere with the magnetic signal ....?

i would be more concerned that both banks are firing the injectors , it could be a loose cable or plug for this system , and don't forget the vacuum feed to the boot ecu....

hopefully something really simple, but its finding the simple fix thats the money burner........

how many made it today ?

and are we up for the museum on the bank holiday saturday at the end of august ?
