When I purchased my XJS, I found the bottom of the door cards damp. My fear is leakage past the upper horizontal portion of the door seal where it bears against the body, ahead of the windscreen. Does anybody have any fixes for increasing the pressure on the door seals over this portion of the seal or leveling out irregularities?
Thanks
Peter

Door Seal Leakage
Doors are fully adjustable in all directions on the hinges, but if your door is sat flush and straight with the body they are right.
Are you sure it's the door to body seal that's leaking ? if it is really flat (as it should have a bit of spring in the rubber) the best thing is to replace the door to body seal.
First i'd check the door 1/4 glass seals as these are prone to leaking and also the seal against the door main window itself .
If the door has got it's plastic film intact when the door card is removed i'd say it was the door seal to body, if the plastic film is torn or not there at all it might just be water splashing the door card from inside the door as some water does find it's way in (are the door drains clear?)

Door Seal Leakage
as said,
it could be the water curtain within the door not shedding the water away from the door card, or it could be the quarter light seal ,
and it could be the actual door seal, these are known to deteriorate,
have a close look at the fitment of the door in the aperture, if as said, it fits well to the body both in and out and up and down than it should be ok, but you must also check the actual top of the window frame, these can over time move away from the body of the car allowing a gap against the seal , this can be remedied by carefully shaping back the frame to the car , wind the window down and put mild force to the top of the window frame bending it in, this is the bodyshop method of doing it, but be very careful, only a few mm's are required to make it fit well again

My 89 3.6 had exactly this problem and you could trace where the water was passing the seal..........At that time research indicated that replacement seals were not available.
In an idle moment at work I found some 1/8th thick sheet rubber, so I cut a couple of strips about 1/2 inch wide and 2-3 inches long, dried the area thoroughly and then glued the strips on top of one another (with 3M 1300L - same as evo-stick) to the body underneath the seal in the affected area, thus pushing the seal outwards - I had to lift the seal away from the body slightly to get them under it.
Hey Presto - NO LEAKS!
Now - I find on e-bay that replacement seals are available so if this fix doesn't work then I guess thats the way to go. (Tho' I have no idea what the quality is like).
Best Wishes and Good Luck
