Soft close boot operation

Postby Tailsme » Mon Apr 13, 2015 7:46 pm

I have a 2005 X350 and recently noticed that I cannot open the boot using the remote. If I try to open with the remote the boot does open but does not release fully, it is still held on a latch and it will not open. Once this has happened I have to push down on the boot lid for the soft close function to re-lock the boot and can only open it fully by using the key.

The electrical part of the opening is working but there is still something holding the latch in place. Does anybody know if there is there some kind of adjustment I can make on the latch? As I say by using the remote the boot is opening possibly 1/2 inch but will not release completely.

I am not sure if it needs a new latch system but seems very strange it will not open on the remote but will with the key.

Any help is appreciated. :D

Thank you
Darren

Darren, it sounds like the release mechanism is just sticking a bit, have you tried some lubricant on it?

Hi, Darren,

My 2003 model has been doing this on occasion ever since I've had it (since 2008) and the garage was unable to get to the bottom of it. Rather than push down on the boot lid, though, I've tended to simply push the manual opening button and the lid tends to pull itself shut and immediately open fully. I once had a half-unlatched failure - the boot would neither fully open nor close - which required the garage to see to it. The guilty party was a plastic clip attached to the operating arm and prompted the garage to warn me to be gentle when opening and closing the boot as they felt it a poor design
