X300 keys locked in boot.

Postby tattonpark6 » Tue Mar 17, 2015 8:51 pm

I have done it, locked the keys in the boot. 96 X300. I believe I have to go behind the number plate, drill a hole and then use a bent coat hanger to unlock.
Can you confirm folks that the procedure is,as I think it is, the Jaguar garage mentioned it years ago, and I think that was the deal. The green key is no use, for chauffeur, it only allows me into the car. Thanks in anticipation. Ron. York City.

I know what misery this can cause. I`m not a 300 expert by any means but this post is for an XJ40 which may be similar in respect of the boot detail. Other will see this post and may be able to help further.

Also peruse other bodywork posts on the 300/XJ40 bodywork section where you may find more details in respect of this problem. The best of luck and hope you get sorted very soon.

I vaguely remember that there may be a valet switch in the centre armrest which should allow the valet key to open the boot if you switch it off.
It was a while ago so apologies if I've got it wrong.

Many thanks to you all, I have my keys.
I took heed of all your comments, made a quick call to my Motor Factor store-man, re. some new number plate adhesive pads, and the loan of a cordless drill etc. [due my tool box in the boot] and he said 'just draw a line down from the release button, then mark 4 inches up from the lip of the boot lid, drill a quarter inch hole and access with an electricians 6 inch screwdriver, and you may find someone has been there before you'. So, lots of ribald laughter, and off I trot, first things first, the number plate off.
Those adhesive pads do a super job, they are are pain to remove, anyway number plate came away, and I noted various bits of black tape on the boot lid, measured 4 inch up from boot lip and that coincided with a bit of tape, gently peeled away and 'Bingo', a quarter of an inch hole, [someone had been there before me].
Borrowed a 6 jnch electricians screwdriver, down on my knees like a safe breaker, and within 10 seconds, with a gentle movement of the blade to the right, boot lid open.
So, many ways of doing this, but this was easy, to recap; centre line down from release button, measure 4 inch up from lip of boot lid, drill a quarter inch hole, you now have access to the upper cam of the latch mechanism, with electricians screwdriver gently poke around till you feel the mechanism, and flick the tip of the screwdriver blade to the right. Job done, and thanks again, we have a great club. Ron. York City.

I think a thief will find easier ways of getting into a boot than taking off number plates and drilling holes, it might just bring attention to the event.
It has not been a particular secret, Jaguar gave me information years ago, so wind your neck in, and just hope that you never loose anything, particularly your sense of humour.

We also found at Northern Day - when another owner had locked his keys in the boot, you can try other owners keys - my set opened the locked boot of another car no problem. Just in case this happens at an event again.... Just make sure you keep the key lock working by using it from time to time.. :D

As my mum used to say
