Locking Wheel Nuts - HELP!

Postby GOM53 » Mon Jun 18, 2007 8:57 pm

I have a 1995 6-litre XJS coupe. Following the service and MOT, the locking wheel nut tool is missing. The local Jaguar main dealer wants £80 for a tool and a set of locking wheel nuts, but there's no guarentee that the new tool will fit the existing nuts.

Does anyone have one to sell, or know where I can get hold of either a spare or origional?

^ The nut is about 22.5 mm in diameter. The images above show the wheel and the nut in close up.

The absence of this tool is affecting my use of the car, so if anyone can help it will be much appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You may wish to checkout.........

I believe that you will have to buy a new set of locking wheelnuts (presumably from Jaguar) with keys and then have the old ones removed.
If you are a member of the AA/RAC etc, they may already have this piece of kit................
I can't personally recommend this company (Dynomec) but the link comes from a reliable source - Honest John, Daily Telegraph Motoring Correspondent.
You could try to defray the cost against the garage who (presumably?) lost your key.
Good Luck!

PS How does the 6 litre handle on the old Nankangs??? I used to run them on a 2.8i Capri and found them cheap and grippy but soft as **** - they didn't last a year!

Thanks for the info, I've been onto their site and made some enquiries.

The tyres were on the car when I bought it - you're right, they're crap! I'm trying to source a set of Pirelli's for it... Except that I can't get the wheels off!

Pirelli P6000 225/55 ZR 16 J (J=Jaguar) are the puckah tyre and are readilly available from any (Pirelli) tyre dealer, however no-one keeps them on the shelf , so you need to order them and then have them fitted after delivery - usually the following day.
Expect to pay £98.00-£103.00 fitted and balanced all in.
NB If you want to keep your alloys looking good, ensure the balancing weights are of the stick-on type and are placed INSIDE the rim. :D
Re NanKangs......I didn't think they were crap :? for what they cost they were cheap tyres and gripped like superglue, trouble was they wore out driving away from the tyre dealers  I guess it's all down to tyre compound and they were very soft, but great for pushing it around corners  especially in a 2.8i Capri which is notoriously "arse-ended" - but thats the fun 8)
I think there is a comparison with oil changes .....cheap oil and change it more often or expensive oil and change it less frequently.........often the former is the better way to go........... :?:
