BB,
I'm hoping there'll be a whole programme organised throughout the year to celebrate the most popular model of the JEC! Health permitting, I'll attend whetever I can.

Perhaps a weekend with a nice run in scenic surroundings might make a nice change from the usual, with suitable eats of course. If the Lincolnshire Wolds appeals I may be able to help put something on.

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
well,
i have just been through the full calendar of JEC and other events published on this site, and there is not one mention of anything to celebrate the XJS's 40th anniversary or launch
there is even an event for the XJ coupe 40th birthday, but not the XJS !!!
has this been overlooked ?
i appreciate that regional and national events may have a corner set by for the XJS , but c'mon guys !!
disappointed

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
To all who run and love a Jaguar XJS,
This year is, as we all know, the 40th anniversary of our favourite model.
We have now got Christmas and the New Year festive season out of the way so we should be able to think of a fitting event that we can take from show to show. My main problem is what shall we do to keep the brethren and their better halves and families happy at a car show.
It should not, of course, be to expensive. We can do all sorts of things that come to your collective minds, for instance, A side show of some sort, a coconut shy, a driving booth with a sit in and drive competition, including a prize for the best kids and grown ups or anything else you can think of.
Please have a good think and give us some ideas. They can be as mad or nonsensical as you like as long as they are not too stupid or dangerous.
What turned all of us on when you were young and fancy free at open air shows, outings and picnics.
We will, of course, ask the various people running the shows to give us our own display stands.
Get your thinking caps on guys and give it some thought and come back with your ideas. I believe that there are about 2,400 of us in the Club so we should be able to think of something.
All the best, Brian Harris

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
Brian,
I think there's a difference between an event at our National Shows and a programme of events, some big, some small throughout the year.
Naturally, at the main shows this year, we would expect to have XJS-dedicated parking plus a separate display of each variant of the model throughout the 21 years, including all the special external variants.
Throughout the year, it would be good if there were runs, open days at XJS specialists, various technical seminars, maybe a run to Browns Lane for the anniversary Launch Day, maybe an evening event somewhere, an XJS Quiz night, an XJS track day, XJS boot sale (inviting all trade suppliers), XJS speed run at an airfield, "How fast can you drop your rear cage competition", the list goes on!
As soon as I'm healthy, I'm getting the Meguiars polish and spanners out!
Paul

I have organized a trip for 'Drive-It-Day' on April 26th to Burton Constable Hall just east of Beverly starting from 'The Ropewalk ' Barton-on-Humber for coffee at 10am, or go straight there if more convenient.PM me if you want more details. All welcome. Have a look at their website - there is plenty of room in the grounds for us !!!

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
Part of the problem is that we are all scattered all over the place and some of us work away (I missed pretty much every car and boat related show last year).
Our little breakfast meet is quite popular so maybe something similar but on a lunchtime (so that the bar is open!).

There will shortly be an announcement regarding Western Day and an XJS timeline, and special featured parking area. Our Events team has been focussed on the details for eastern day but now that is virtually complete the planning of Western Day has commenced.
You might want to think about tacking runs to finish at Bodelwyddan as a way to concentrate a large number of XJS's onto site that weekend.
Anyway just thought I would give you all an early heads up.....
Regards

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
The Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club are holding their first ever 'Western Weekend' (Western as in West of England, not Cowboys and Indians!) at Bodelwyddan Castle, Denbighshire from 25th to 27th September this year.
Details can be found HERE: http://www.jec.org.uk/events/21478/jec- ... n-day.html
A major part of this event will celebrate 40 years since the launch of the XJ-S in September 1975, so we wish to create an XJS Timeline on Sunday 27th September.
We need as many different variants of XJS in the timeline as possible.
If you would like to join our XJS Timeline with your XJS, please contact Letitia.mace@jec.org.uk with the following details and a good quality photo.
1. Name
2. Contact mobile tel number
3. JEC membership number
4. Full Chassis Number
5. Model Year
6. Body type: Coupe, Cabriolet, Convertible and Convertible 2+2
7. Engine: Pre HE, Pre HE P Digital, HE, 3.6, 4.0, 5.3, 6.0
8. Transmission: manual, auto
9. Any conversions/change from original specification
10. Is this a standard XJS or one of the following variants?
11. Celebration, Insignia, XJR-S, TWR, JaguarSport, Celebration Le Mans, Asprey, Lister Le Mans, Lynx Eventer, Arden, Burlet, Dulait Ortoni or Ateliers Reunis, Lynx Spyder, Guy Salmon Jubilee, Railton F28 Fairmile, Hess & Eisenhardt Convertible, Paul Bailey Monaco, Paul Banham, Koenig, Hyper.
12. Other variant, not listed above, such as an XJS that is currently being used for racing, or any other non-factory conversion, one-off or otherwise.
In most instances inclusion in the Timeline will be on a first come first served basis, the primary example being the one whose owner contacts me first and with reserve cars joining the main line up only if the primary example fails to arrive on time on the day, or at my discretion.
All other examples will join a dedicated XJS area - let's see how many we can gather on the day to celebrate this 40 year landmark!
If your XJS is chosen for the Timeline you are committed to arriving by 8.45am at the latest and you will not be allowed to remove your car before 4pm. Your XJS cannot be removed for Concours or Pride & Joy judging, or other reasons.
If you own an XJS of any description, we hope you will join us for the weekend, or at least Sunday the 27th.
If you have an unusual XJS which I have omitted from the list, please contact me, Letitia.mace@jec.org.uk

this is good news, but i do think its a little too late
most people organise their year with the advantage of knowing whats happening before they do , and this info is too late in my opinion ,
i fear this will impact on numbers who have already made plans for the year with the info they already have

PS , Flamenco, congrats on your first post after seven years......... , that must be a record ? what do you drive, where are you ?

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
Likewise I'm afraid. I can't attend either of the national days.
Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
I would actively encourage folks to support Eastern and Western days where possible so that we have a good show of XJ-S/XJS.
Point taken about forward planning/notice. Ray's comment about Eastern day planning "...Our Events team has been focused on the details for eastern day but now that is virtually complete the planning of Western Day has commenced..." has come as a bit of a surprise to me as I thought it still in progress. However, apart from the Directors and Office staff pretty much everyone else are volunteers, so I guess comms and planning will always be loosely federated outside the immediate planning group.

Re: XJS 40th events . anything happening ??
I bit the bullet several months back and booked up my place at the hotel for the Western show and will be taking my XJS providing she is behaving....., however, I know that there are no places left now for anyone wishing to stay in the hotel where the event is, and they will have to find alternative accommodation
this is part of my frustration , in that all the rooms were booked before the details of the event have been sorted, especially now that its going to be XJS orientated
I appreciate that the vast majority of the JEC organising staff are volunteers , this should however not preclude the club from being a little better organised at getting the info out there ,
an observation more than a criticism
lets hope that anyone wishing to attend has not been put off by this and can turn up and enjoy all the activities on the day
