Hi,

The crankshaft pulley Bolt is unbelievably tight, I had to make up a bracket to lock the flywheel to slacken and tighten the bolt, but the pulley is also very tight so has to be pulled off. None of my own or other bearing pullers that I borrowed would fit so I had to make up a special one to suit.

Looking from the top there appears to be no room to work but infact once the water hoses have been removed there is a fair amount of space to work and if the puller is short you should be able to remove the pulley with radiators in situ (suggest putting a sheet of hardboard or similar on the rad to protect it).

With the radiators out and hoses off I sat on the front crossmember with my feet in the engine bay (size 13 boots) to work on the top and back of the engine (when refitting and assembling the engine), so you see there is room in there.

If it is needed I can supply the bolt tension and a picture of my home made puller.

Well not much progress with the crank shaft pulley be bed ridden for a couple of weeks, thats getting old for you.

Back on the job Major overhaul for the controle tecnique ( m.o.t ) only every 2 years out here.

Underneath brake pipe paint flake but no real corrosion, rub down and coat of paint.

New rear brake pads.

Then replace crank shaft pulley, I have a spare pulley with 40k from a 2004 stype, any comments
on fitting a recycled one !.
Also have to fit a new air-con pipe at the front (£212.) change oil filter and antifreeze re-gaz air-co again.

Good job the weathers still mild out here.
Advise on the recycled crank shaft pulley would be helpful.

I am going to replace the bottom front cooling pipes and a new thermostat housing as I have one in the garage.
The car has done 97k should I consider replacing the water pump as well

At that mileage I would be replacing any parts which are subject to wear caused by use and that may be difficult to access at a later date. All belts, idlers, hoses etc should be thoroughly inspected.

Check the part numbers for both your car and the donor pulley to ensure compatibility before you begin work. The new SNG Barratt catalogue is now on line and makes a good reference source for ordering new items and for comparing part numbers from different model years.

Note Brians guide pointers as to pulley removal and obtain a pulley removal kit if you are struggling. All too easy to slip with a wrench and knock your teeth out!

Thanks Mike and Brian for your pointers and help, All parts fitted and up and running, ready for the 2 year mot next week. Starting on a bit of body tidying, Wife has scrapped the front bumper and reversed to fast in to a parked car.

She came home and confessed, bless her.

Its a small split on the drivers side rear corner. I have seen a u tube demo on repairing and seen some bumper repair kits on e bay. any body got any advise or suggestions. thanks Tony.

Fit a set of aftermarket reversing sensors, I couldn't assess the space behind so fitted a £20 set from Maplin.

Amazing, I had no problem fitting reversing kit on the rear bumper, she still reversed into a parked car, Going to get her a hearing aid tomorrow, and may be fit a rear camera.

Hello Mike,

Cr past ct ok for next 2 years !!!

Having had the crankshaft pulley replaced new auxiliary belt new bottom hoses and thermostat new front left-hand aicon pipes renewed air-con recharged oil and filter renewed etc, passed the ct OK

However I have just noticed a small leak on the ground when I park the car.

its about 12 inches under the car at the front passenger side, looks like it could be oil but not sure , cant see any thing without taking the under cover off, any ideas what to look for !!!

Water pump? Several types sold for the V6. Go on Vin No if you need one.

Check to see all clips are secure.

Thats about all I can suggest. Eye ball and see what you can find.
