How old is an E Type driver?

We have a new member in Lincs North who has taken to E - type ownership at (I think he said ) age 75. When I next see him I will ask him to put an entry in confirming. It is a series 3 coupe and I was most interested to be told that the insurance was £97. I asked if that was for 3rd party only but apparently not. Adrian Flux . Makes recent experiences with Footman J by several oldies look v. expensive. Watch this space.

Welcome to this thread which we might be able to keep going for some time yet. I'm sorry I can't help you with your Kenlowe problem and I assume no-one else can at the moment or they would have done so. Sometimes its better to say nothing than to chip in with possibly erroneous advice that could cost someone a lot of time and money. I am very aware of internet warriors who appear to talk knowledgeably on subjects about which they know little or nothing. Sometimes silence is reassuring.

This middling aged E-Type driver (nearly) has failed to complete his project on time to use for daughter's wedding. A great shame, but she absolutely loved the dash to the service in the 911 with ribbons flapping in the wind rush. The groom's transport was a Land Rover Defender and the 2 cars stood side by side couldn't have looked more different.

Daughter number 2 not showing any signs of getting hitched so I guess I have a bit of breathing space. Still aim for completion in next couple of months but getting pressure for domestic repairs and improvements.

Does anybody have any pictures of the header rail above the windscreen? I need to source or make one and have no idea what it looks like. Its a series 1 3.8 FHC.

This is a bit late to continue this thread, but I can't help myself!
I bought my series three in 1974 when I was 33.
I still have it, undergoing re commissioning at the mom, at the age of, gulp, 73!

I suspect there are owners out there who have had earlier models and held onto them...

I suppose as the third owner of a '71 thats not too bad a line of succession is it? But won;t qualify for any awards

We have an owner here in Portsmouth Region who has had his Series 1 since 1970. Paid £4k for it at the time. Almost original, has had a few areas of paint and there is a section around the front OS sill and bonnet which looks like there has been a bit of poor bodywork repair carried out at some time. Rubbers all a bit perished and hinges tired on the drivers door. Not a bad car though and still going well.

I`ve been approached to respray it at some point. Depends if my leg can stand the strain and a suitable garage be found in which to do the job. Could be quite an interesting project. I used to spray aircraft so sorting a car out will be rather less work.

Well I finally got my hands on my 1968 Series2 ots at the tender age of 45...now 47
I do think that when the engine starts we all feel 10 years old...I know I do

You're right. I've had mine since 2001, and I hope to drive it before I need lifting into it! Worse than that, it was actually re-imported to UK on 7th November 1989 and has not been on the road since. So that's 25 years in restoration.

I think anybody that's owned and maintained an E-Type for any length of time deserves a medal the size of a frying pan. Its easy in the current climate to look at values and say that you can't lose but some people have seen several cycles of rising and falling values and still hung on to their cars and lavished time and money on them just because they love them. They are the real enthusiasts.

Yes Rich, I sometimes go up the garage just to hear my engine run. It keeps me motivated. Shame time is tight.

and don't think its an issue just for the ' E ' owners though,

the average age of JEC members is actually very high , the majority are around their sixties, about two thirds, the last third is mostly 40-60 and a few percent under 40 , and less than 1% of all members are female ,

numbers taken from a recent region survey within the club

take from that what you will.............

Well I've just brought the female membership figures up a little. I will post pics when the car arrives home - it is still with the chap I bought it from as it needs a few bits sorting. I hope to have it home in time for a New Year run - weather allowing of course!
