Thanks for the link to www.confused.com DH.

Didn't find anything come close for me though.
The cheapest was £75 more than Footman James and one actually wanted three times more than I pay now!!!!!!

One thing I didn't get to find out though........
If the car is writen off do they give a true valuation or just market value?? :?

pjts1, Mark and foxcovert, all noted, interesting info. and food for thought. Thankyou.

Gordon
Now you've got me a bit worried :?: , perhaps I completed the on-line form incorrectly to give such large reductions, tho I think it was all OK

Ref. your query, did you ask for agreed value or ordinary insurance?
An ordinary policy will only pay what THEY deem to be the market value, which may well not be what we think the car is worth. Hence the benefit bestowed by an agreed value Classic policy. For me however my car is my daily driver, I wish to maintain my NCB and my annual mileage precludes a limited mileage policy.

I think this insurance thread may run for a while and will be of benefit to us all.

Best Wishes

I don't remember seeing an option for an agreed value on the on-line calculator, but then again you can't really beat phoning someone up to make sure all is what it seems

Jumping on this thread i have also just renewed my insurance via confused.com.DH is right that driving the xjs as your daily driver is the best way to get the most out of a superb car.My annual mileage this past year was just over 20,000.I also need a "normal" insurance policy and the cost with ncp is £268.I also did use my x300 but having also looked at only running my xjs occasionly it was doing it no good so i had to decide x300 or xjs.x300 had to go!Now my xjs is being used for what it was built for "driving".Thanks to Dave Marks it runs sweet as a nut.

With reference to the question put by Gordon@1962 - I believe that Footman James is now owned by Aon Insurance.
Happy motoring,
Richard.

UPDATE

Hi All

I received my insurance renewal reminder from Footman James yesterday......insurance runs out midnight tomorrow

I knew it was due this month but for many, many years I have just waited for the reminder to appear and then had a think about renewing/shopping around.
Is it me or did I always get three or four weeks notice previously? Could it be that they're losing a lot of business so are trying to limit your options?.......
Renewal quote was for £330.00.

Got back on to confused.com and updated my previous quote and then renewed immediately on-line..

I am now ( I hope - subject to the Policy in writing arriving :!: ) a customer of Admiral for...................£205.00.
I even put an extra thousand miles onto annual mileage just to be on the safe side and have reduced my total excess. All other details the same, fully comp. named driver, protected NCB, business mileage etc.

NB I checked TWICE that all the policy details were correct - it seemed SO cheap!

I will be having that chat with FJ tomorrow.

MANY THANKS for your good advice.

Way to go I think .
A rather chuffed........

i tried FJ for my new XJ8 ( new to me ) , they came in at around £750 , which was a whole £450 more than i ended up paying with somone else,

£300 fully comp and all the same details

it DOES pay to shop around, even if you are told that you have a good deal because ' we like jaguar owners '

I just insured my XJR-S (for the first time) and the best quote was with Adrian Flux - £250 cheaper than FJ, but I did want 3,000 pleasure plus 2,000 business miles. Even though that made it a bit expensive, it was still much cheaper than putting the XJR-S on my 'normal' insurance (with Direct Line, 9 years fully protected ncd)!

So much for me recommending Firebond, they are now owned by...... Footman James!, under the AON group.

Many times over the years I had quotes from FJ as they are/were the clubs recommended insurer's and had also been well recommended, however the cost for similar cover was always much higher. I will wait and see if my premium increases or not at the next renewal. :(

An update as I've now renewed.
As you will know by now, there are three insurers with special JEC schemes, Adrian Flux, Peter D James and Footman James.

Last year with Firebond I paid £182, this year I had a renewal quote from Footman James for £155, very good.
An on-line quote from Peter James was £171, not so good.
Adrian Flux wouldn't give an online quote and I couldn't be @rs€d spending half an hour on the phone going through all the details.

When I spoke to the (very friendly and helpful) lady at Footman James I found that I hadn't been quoted the JEC scheme, but once that was done the quote came down even more to £130 which I thought was brilliant. :D

Obviously an individuals quotation will vary depending on personal circumstances etc. but when you come to renewal time make sure you quote the JEC scheme. This alone saved me £25 which has effectively paid for my JEC subscription for the year.

Hi,

I have just aquired my first XJS and insured it through Adrian Flux for £154.00 full comp only 2000 miles per annum due to working overseas but it comes with all the whistle and bells that the other insurers give!
No problem with market value etc.......might be of assistance to those with low mileage!

Cheers
