Just for interest:- Nigel Thorley in "Jaguar All The Cars" quotes XK8 weights in pounds as per:-
4.0 litre .....3560.....3759 convertible
4.0 litre s/c 3616.....3814 conv.
4.2 litre......3715.....3913 conv.
4.2 litre s/c 3825.....4001 conv.
I can't cope with that metric stuff !

Re: Fuel Consumption
From your posts so far it would appear that your consumption figures are taken from the cars computer?
It may be an interesting exercise to brim the tank, note the mileage and then for the next thousand miles or so take a recorded of actual fuel put into the car and mileage, brimming the tank each time. (By brimming, fill till the nozzle clicks to avoid overfilling).
If nothing else it will show how exact the cars computer is......it may show that it is not accurate....

Re: Fuel Consumption
Over reads by about 10% on my modern S-type when I`ve used a Tom Tom for mileage covered comparison. Average mpg is 23 on the car. If that is the case, brimmed for checking does it only manage 20 mpg in general use?
My mileage covered with J44 is currently 90k on the dash. I think not. 81k is more like it. Great because I`ve been over oil servicing my car. Should live for ever!

Re: Fuel Consumption
yes, that's quite correct and I intimated that the "readouts were interesting" and not definitive... probably do as you suggest and do the brim to brim runs in the summer.. hopefully the 99p litre will be with us too! From your posts so far it would appear that your consumption figures are taken from the cars computer?

Had quite a few vehicles with under / over reading on the dash information so you are leaning against and open door (if not falling through!)Over reads by about 10% on my modern S-type when I`ve used a Tom Tom for mileage covered comparison. Must have a go with my TomTom in the Jaguar and see what is what... as it happens my van reads four mph under the actual speed based against the TomTom so you have to wonder how the odometer is running too!

Re: Fuel Consumption
Hi all,
Interesting reading but I have to ask if you buy a v8 why would you worry about mpg ? I got my XK for a fun weekend car that I could really enjoy and looking at mpg didn't come in to the decision, however I ran a v8 Land Rover for 2 years which used to pull my my boat (approx 2.5tonne) now that made me change the Land Rover to a diesel Navara !
All the best
Greg

Re: Fuel Consumption
Hi Greg . the original point I asked was if the mpg seemed reasonable, on the basis that it could tell me if the engine was running reasonably well or not.Hi all,

The thread got a bit off course but that's what happens, it's a conversation on line.
I was not, am not, that bothered about mpg..
Why would I ?
I run a 240 bhp 9000rpm S2k, a six pot two litre GT6, a TR7 v8 and of course the XK8, all of which do anywhere between 18-25mpg.
On the other hand I have several bikes running 40-120mpg !!
Am I bovered ? !
Anyway, welcome to the debate and to the forum!
