I read in this months Jaguar Enthusiast Club magazine that Footman James is up for sale. :?
I thought there was a post in the forum a while ago but can't seem to find it? (tried search)

Does anyone know what effect this is going to have on us?

Firebond :?:
I've heard of "Third Party, Fire and Strongbow"
Sorry Pop - local West Country joke.
Re Footman James. I hope service will be maintained as usual whatever the outcome, I've been with them three years and the Premiums are VERY VERY competitive. I recommend them without reservation. One of the best benefits Club Membership has to offer.:D
Not including this Forum, obviously. 8)

I've been with Footman James for about 15 years now.
I've tried various companies over that time to see if they can beat their quotes, but nothing comes near.
In fact if I wasn't with them I could expect my premiums to go up between 60% to 100%

Its a post code lottery. Down here in Hampshire, Footman James have never come up with the cheapest quote for me. (I have clean licence, car garaged etc) Ive been with Sureway for a three years. Before that with Heritage. The rub is that to get a valuation for Sureway the club charges £12. Still not competitive though. So... for me Footman James are not a club benefit although all this competition must keep prices down

I'm amazed that FJ are not the cheapest thru JEC.
Would you mind giving details of yourself and your car?

Hi Dh...Re Footman james..

I like yourself have a late facelift xjs..a 96 celebration 4.0ltr..I have been a jec member for quite a few years now and used to insure with the above mentioned until i found them no longer competitive ..

My renewal is due at the beggining of may so i thought i might give the footman james online quote system a go,for old times sake...

So having filled out the online forms they then tell me They will not insure my xjs beacause it's not 15 years old ... :So i put in for comparisons sake a 91 facelift as my car, which just got through their threshold..

I live in cheshire.Good area in the postcode lottery.
3000 miles per year, £279.00

I have been with Lancaster for the last three years..

No threshold for classic cover on the late facelift xjs,i must add no european breakdown cover ,3000 miles with a renewal of £189.00,it was £185.00 last year.

I have a s3 jaguar sovereign 4.2,1500 miles a year, garaged £89.00 with lancaster and a 1990 daimler double six,1500 miles £89.00 also with Lancaster...

Lancaster give a discount for being a club member..

I have never and would not pay £12.00 to the jec for looking at some photo's and stamping a form to say what the value of my cars should be,i don't know whether you would agree but photo's can be very deceiving of the condition of cars..

Finally..The greatest misnomer is agreed value..As long as the classic car publications state a valuation for you paticular make and model in a particular condition say A.. and the insurance assessors report states the same pre accident condition, you can claim the market value off the insurance company....

Shop around would be my advice....

I also use lancaster classic car insurance, 1993 4.0 coupe valued at £7500 quoted £149.21 for fully comp starting on 1/5/07 this quote was found using confused .com definitely worth a try on line quote given in 60 seconds. fj quoting £320 for same details

Foxcovert and Mark
All noted, glad you both got good deals :D
To clarify, I use my car as my only vehicle and do about 15,000 miles a year.
I am insured with FJ on a "normal" unlimited mileage, fully comp. with protected no claims policy NOT limited mileage classic car cover.
They were over a hundred pounds cheaper than other quotes I received (£395.25 for the current year) 8)
I will try confused.com when I come to renew at the end of the summer to see what it comes up with.

Have a look at Firebond, you may find yourself covered to the same degree both cheaper and with less confusion

Mark
TOP TIP :D
I couldn't wait due to curiosity, tried confused .com in anticipation of August renewal date, same details, Fully Comp. 15,000 miles, FULL protected NCB, self and Libby as named driver, Value £8000( )
Can you believe...........
Admiral £213.40........
RAC 238.99..........
NORWICH UNION........£249.99.....
I'm Gobsmacked :?
Still, the internet has it's benefits...............
Interestingly, I was insured with Norwich Union via AA Insurance for quite a few years and they were very competitive, then their quotes went sky-high, perhaps they have had a re-think on their premiums?
Many thanks for the tip, will DEFINATELY check out confused.com at renewal time :D :D :D
Will also have an interesting phone call with FJ................... :x
Unfortunately this only goes to prove that I am now OFFICIALLY an old git (TOGG)............ :(
DH Dove
PS Lancaster could not offer quote for "this type of use".........I assume a reference to the fact that I need some business use (less than 1,000 miles per year) or protected NCB.
Firebond do not offer protected no claims bonus.

Congratulations Dh..You deserve it....

Anyone that clocks up 15000 a year in an "S" is a true enthusiast...

It just goes to show whatever our insurance needs, shopping around is the way..My daily driver is a vw corrado and i got £205.00 off confused.com last week i am now insured through their contact information....

Though i would rather have that AJ16 engined beast of mine on the road instead, your quote has given me food for thought....goodbye v dub...

Take care Dh your energy along with pop's keeps the forum alive....

Foxcovert
You are overly kind in your comments, I think me and Pop just have too much time on our hands and love our cars too much :?
15000 miles per year in the XJS is an absolute delight 8)
Re Corrados..........many years ago I was given a lift from Bristol to Abingdon and back in a (1800 supercharged?) Corrado I thought it was one of the best cars I had ever been in and swore that I would have one, then Libby got her V12 XJS (our first) and the memory faded........ :o
At that time I was running an XJ6 Series 3 as a daily driver and had a 1973 Rover P6 3500S in the lock-up for "weeekend and holiday use"
Eventually, after a steep learning curve I learnt one thing from that.......trying to keep two cars on the road with tax, mot, insurance etc. is a mugs game  , it costs you a fortune and half the time your classic doesn't go because you haven't started it for a few weeks :( .
Subsequently I reduced my fleet to one, and now do all my miles in the XJS.
It's used every day, OK it needs to be serviced, but that's the same for any car.......... I only pay one MoT, insurance premium and tax and I am not paying for a lock-up garage etc. etc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY I get to drive the XJS every day. :D :D :D :D
This will not suit many people but it does for me :D
As they say, you pays yer money and takes yer chance............
Like everything else, I guess it's horses for courses 8)
Best Wishes

DH,

Don't forget that the same insurance company will quote different rates to different brokers based on a number of factors including volume of business passed, broker premium negotiated etc. You can see this when you use an internet insurance search engine such as Confused and you'll find the same company is often providing quotes to different prime brokers.

I moved my insurance this year to Barclays who actually use Norwich Union. I was already with Norwich Union who had requoted me direct. However moving to Barclays as prime broker and ending up back with the same insurance company saved me over £100!!

Car insurance is one of the areas where it always pays to shop around even if you think you're happy with your renewal.

1980 XJ-S Pre-HE
Jaguar 4.2 Supercharged engine (but not with a Jaguar body..)
