Rear Badge "Jaguar"

Can anyone tell me if the 2002 model XK8 should have a "Jaguar" badge below the left rear (nearside) light unit... effectively matching the "XK8" badge on the other side.

It seems as if some cars have them and some not, did the early XK8 have them and the later ones lost them?

I have had a look at the photos in "Jaguar All The Cars " and "You and your XK8" by Nigel Thorley and it looks to me if the early cars did indeed have a "Jaguar" badge on the rear nearside panel. This seems to have been deleted on the first facelift cars----when they gained the chrome rear light cluster surround .....among other details.
I bet someone will know the precise details of the change.

Can't give a definitive answer even after trawling the net and looking in a few books and back issues of the magazine - but it does point consistently to your 2002 car being devoid of a Jaguar badge on LHS. What I can say for certain is that if you put your key in that little hole in the XK8 badge, you can open the boot!

The rear shots of the XK8/R in the UK sales literature for MY2002 are all LHD!

My XK8 (although the LHS rear quarter on my XK has, at some point before I bought it, been re-painted), those in the Sales blurb & yours do not a 'Jaguar' badge under the LHS rear light.

Looking at the later UK sales info, there is no badge under the LHS rear light until the last models were released (with a '4.2-S' badge). I suspect that as the 'chrome' boot plinth has 'Jaguar' set into it, they saved 30p in no longer putting the badge under the light.
