XJR manuals: rare as hens golden teeth.

Just wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a rough ballpark price one would expect to pay for one? So few come on the market that its quite hard to do the research...

now then! for starters do you mean X300 or XJ40?
i am guessing you mean X300, seen as most people dont know the XJ40 versions even exist!

there is no set price for any jag really IMO. its all down the usual variables, of condition, mileage, history, spec etc. mainly condition though, though spec can play a part in like for like condition examples especially rare variants.


so past asking prices i have seen for a genuine X300 XJR manual in the past 4 years, i have seen £1800, £2000, £2500, £3000, £4000, £4500 all the way up to £8000. generally higher value than the equivalent condition auto.
note there were officially 103 X300 XJR factory manuals. i have seen a few conversions floating around too.

now if you want an XJ40 XJR manual in RHD, they are rarer still. only 18 ever made! and i have one of them! no set price for those, as they hardly ever come up for sale.
there were 65 LHD made though, and i do see those come up for sale in Europe (usually Spain for some reason). usually Euro 4500 to 7000.

I was aware of the XJ40, but really was just asking about the X300: I am a little financially challenged and the insurance might be obscene (I am only 19) but just doing a little research for the future.

I already have a 3.2 sport manual, and it's just a little slow for me, but is a phenomenal car... I will keep an eye out for when another one comes up for sale!

I am impressed!! 3.2 Manual. So can I ask what drew you over to Jag's? As a teenager when all my friends were buying 205's and Golfs, I was finding the biggest laziest engine and car I could find.
I had to wait until I was 30 to finally get my first Jag.

I remember the first time I went out with some friends from my previous job into Bristol. There were three cars, 3 drivers and 12 of us in total. My XJ40 Daimler, a Civic "R" and a 206 GTI.

On the way home, everyone wanted to sit in the comfort of my Jag, then pointed and laughed as on the dual carriage way we wafted past the other cars and kept on. Warmth, comfort refinement and just down right power and grunt when needed. What is there not to like about a good Jaguar?

Now I finally have my X300, XJR (auto Im afraid) but the whine of that supercharger as she rockets on is so addictive. You can keep your silly dump valves, give me a super charger Jaguar allllll day long

ok, you need to get saving then! they dont come along much these days , let alone cheaply.
there was a converted one around earlier this year, asking £1850 iirc. maybe that would be the most economic way to get into one, if another comes along.
Another manual lover though. There are not many of us in the jag world. The auto boys are well catered for though.

Well, I wanted something that I could travel 300 miles in in one sitting, with 4 mates, in absolute comfort and with a fair amount of get up and go: a jaguar was, therefore, the only option!

The manual box has such a heavy clutch and gear change, but there is something very satisfying about getting it absolutely right. I also like the 5th gear while motorway driving, and my ability to rev it to properly hear the engine: my next investment will hopefully be something to make the car just a tad louder. Not boy racer loud, just a tiny bit louder, because too loud will interfere in the entire purpose of the car: that of comfort over long distance.
I'll wait and see where I find myself when the next one comes up for sale. Maybe I will be in a better financial position then!

in the mean time, you might want to think about a revised crank sensor bracket, to give you a little more torque.

if you buy one for your x300, it will be transferrable to another x300, (or late XJ40)

I already saw that thread, and nearly pulled the trigger: only concern was insurance.
Will I have to tell my insurance company about it? If so, then I am unlikely to get it for the time being as modifying a car at 19 is expensive. 20 on the other hand....

good point. i think the answer "should be" yes.
maybe call them and ask speculatively, rather than assuming. "what would you charge if......."
if you use one of the classic insurers, they sometimes allow certain mods

I wonder if you would need to declare it as a modification because you are only 'altering the timing' on the engine. If you adjust your distributor on an older car, do you have to tell the insurance company you've 'modified your car because it has changed from standard'?

..you could also feign ignorance of the fact that it was even on the car. Maybe it was fitted by a previous owner before you bought it......

it can only be considered an engine mod, yes. it increases torque and clamps onto the engine!

I wonder how many of the 340 brackets bought so far have been declared on car insurances?
