Anything registered after March 2006 that has a co2 rating of greater than 225gm/km. As an example some X Type's I believe fit into this category!

Funnily enough my 6 litre XJR-S is classified in the pre 2001 greater than 1549cc category and costs £180 to tax.

Perhaps Gordon has a mate on the front benches who likes his Jag's

March 2006
PHEW!!!
But Really, what a load of old Bo****ks
This "Global Warming" GREEN panic seems to me to be getting totally out of hand...
The science is certainly not proven and in some cases distintinctly dodgy.
A couple of weeks ago they were showing islands in the Pacific that were being "swamped" by rising sea levels......
.........in fact they lie on a "subduction zone" (earths crust is shrinking), the seas not going up. THEY'RE GOING DOWN!!!
Of course you wouldn't want to spoil a good story.
Ho Hum
Let's all look forward to more "green"...........TAXES.
Rant Over

PS Don't get me started on the UTTER HOPELESSNESS of WIND TURBINES

the QE2 ocean liner - takes something like 100 gallons diesel just to travel 20 feet or something daft like that, and all the military stuff like aircraft carriers, jet fighters, tanks... and they get fuel much cheaper than we pay! I keep seeing scientific evidence that says CO2 actually makes a pretty useless 'greenhouse gas', water vapour is 1000 times more effective global warming effect. But I can see the sense in taxing 100,000 4x4's in heavy traffic on the school-run, it makes revenue!

What Uncle Gordon and the rest of his highway men haven't realized is that the earth has heated up and cooled down on its own in the past and will do so again and again.

I do understand the desire to remove all these 4x4's from the roads for the school run in particular but empathise with the mothers who drive them because they might run into a sugar-free Ribena slick in the High Street (ooh cynic that I am).
Seriously though, does he think that a family who is able to shell out £50,000+ for a 4x4, big Merc, BM, or Jaguar is going to be put of buying that style of vehicle by another £200.00 in road tax? doubt it but it looks good in the press

New Vehicles in America are equalling or bettering our present c02 emmisions and we're not talking little 1.2 spin happy blocks here,

Re DH doves posting, regarding wind turbines, what many people don't understand is that they have to be kept spinning even in no wind because if they DO stop spinning, the reciprical mass is too much for a gust of wind to re-start so they have motors in them?.
