Change of radio

Postby jimthack180 » Sun Mar 11, 2007 3:11 pm

The Jaguar radio in my 5.3 coupe, having been ailing for some time, has now completely packed up and I thought I would take the opertunity to upgrade to a CD player. However, I can't readily see how to remove the existing unit. I'm a bit squemish about pushing & pulling too much lest I should damage the woodwork. Any advice please ??

The subject has already been covered in quite a few ways. Go to the search button right at the top of the page to see what others have done.

Change of radio

The first thing to do is pull off the heater control knobs. Under there are a couple of lock nuts, which can be undone by using a couple of small flat bladed screwdrivers. Once they're out, the radio surround panel can be eased forward.

The radio bracket is secured using 4 screws or rivets, obviously if they're rivets you'll need to drill them out and replace with self tappers. Once they're out, the radio can be pulled out.

I would suggest modifying the standard bracket rather than trying to fit the cage that comes with your new radio. IIRC I cut off the rear securing mount on the bracket and drilled a couple of additional holes in it to line up with mounting holes on my new radio (some careful measurement required here to get it to sit flush)

If it's rivets, it's original.

If anyone wants the original Clarion radio/cassette with the auto-tuning and antitheft radio code, I have one here free for the taking, just give me the postage and I'll send it, or collect here from Luton.
