Yes. I saw on Twitter that they were out there. I did wonder how long it would take for the "Basil Fawlty" moment to arise!! (ie "don't mention the war!!) :D :D

Just more fatuous school boy rubbish from the 3 stupid little men who never saw the light and brought Top Gear to an end at its zenith in the mid 90's when it was really good and funny. Now it's about who can write the most metaphors and similes into a very very stale predictable script. Star in a reasonably priced car ? Yawn Yawn ! It's now a vehicle for these middle aged men who are just smug and feel they can say and do anything. I'm hoping one day a local sheriff or government official throws all 3 of them and the 25 average sized crew it takes to pander to them into a cell, never to be heard of again. Too much ? :x

a bit too much

as it is an ' entertainment ' program , and you don't have to watch it if you don't like it ,

Got to agree,
I dont really get the hype behind their antics.

It is an entertainment program and one I find very enjoyable. I certainly dont take it seriously or think what they say actually matters that much. I also had to laugh when reading a report on this incident, the closing line of shock was...

"....this implies the presenters don't actually source their cars!"

Really? Have you not worked that out yet, that it is the BBC's best selling scripted, entertainment program NOT a factual car review program.

To be honest, if they were a car review program, would we listen to what they say or buy what we want anyway?

My £1's worth.

Yeah I totally agree, it's an entertainment show at the end of the day. They do occasionally say some silly things, but there are writers, editors and producers, can't entirely blame the 'personalities' of the show.

My other car was used in 'James May's Car's of the People' special series that was on a few months back. It was a very silly series, and very silly segment of the show, but I was quite chuffed to be part of it.

Mine is the blue one :) Now laid up with a broken gearbox, which has nothing to do with the 20+ launches it took to film that...!

Top gear back in the day, was a very different show. I love this review of the 1992 XJR-S.

Jeremy is a big fan of the XJS, so I can forgive some of his other eccentricities

TBH I wouldn't be too bothered if the BBC pulled Top Gear. I think it has become a parody of itself.
It's been fun, but in the effort to become more and more outrageous there's little left of a car review programme. If you want to buy a Supercar it my hold some interest but then if you're spending k£150,000 would you take advice from Top Gear?
For the rest of us there's little to be gained but the antics of the team.
They used to film at Kemble and I was there when the split to the new Top Gear occurred, Vicki BH and Quentin bailed out along with Tiff Needell. It was quite acrimonious. I used to get to drive a car now and again, I remember driving a tiny hatchback under a helicopter and closing my eyes it was sooooo close to the skids. Tiff took me out for a sideways blast in a Ferrari 360 one day, awesome!
JC is a very rich man now and I don't think he really cares about motoring too much, just becoming richer, shame....
Fifth Gear seems to stay in touch with us motorists much better, at least they test cars we may aspire to.
Soooo IMHO Top Gear is now a fantasy, a bit like a computer game,it doesn't hold much relevance to UK motorists any more, at least those of us who have to pay for our cars,

I think JC will be sacked by the BBC before too long, he's becoming an embarrassment to their left wing urban green cycle path idealism, tho since he owns the rights I don't think he'll be too bothered.
Personally, I don't care anymore, it's run it's time.

Just my two penneth.

I agree, the quicker JC goes the better. And because the other two also sold out all their motoring and genuine interest principles for the sake of cheap laughs and adhering to the Clarkson script, they have to go as well.

So let's all campaign for a genuine motoring programme featuring say, Tiff Needell, Jason Plato and Martin Brundle. Then we can have three cars simultaneously tested by people who can actually drive without blaming the car if they spin it through being unable to use the throttle properly. If we want some female glamour we can get Joanna Lumley (for the older generation) to do a nostalgia feature on all the cars used in the Avengers, Minder, The Professionals and all Films eg Bullitt, Vanishing Point, The Blues Brothers, The Italian Job and The French Connection. Glamour for the younger viewers will be provided by Michelle Dockery who will do back to back comparisons of being chauffeured in a 1920s Daimler Sleeve Valve Landaulet vs a 2014 XJ Portfolio LWB. There will be one golden rule: No cars are to be wilfully damaged during filming. Only accidental damage caused during spirited professional racing of D-Types at Goodwood will be tolerated.

Do you think it will fly?

Lol!

It seems that most people tune into Top Gear precisely because it has a prejudiced northerner with a non-pc attitude that is most comfortable doling out abuse at people / companies. The other aspect is car-pornia: people looking at Top Gear presenters driving / abusing supercars that the majority of the audience will never own.

It was interesting reading about Tony's experience with the old Top Gear team; I have nothing but respect for Tiff Needell and Quentin Wilson and the like, but the old Top Gear format was tired and I do remember being very bored with an in-depth review of a Volvo 340 DL auto....

Maybe it is time to shake-up the format again....

PS - I think that Jaguar should have given Joanna Lumley one of those new Jaguar E-type lightweights as a PR exercise :) I would be more than happy to watch an hour long program of Joanna reviewing it :) Next week.... Felicity Kendal reviews a pre-HE XJ-S :)

Ohhhhh,
Period drama thing then. So I would not see her alongside Jeremy Wade fishing, or the Anfield faithful celebrating a goal with her?

Will have to google her and see if I am any the wiser.

;)
