double blow out on the way home tonight !!

Postby Brakebuster » Thu Jul 17, 2014 7:12 pm

not actually as bad as it sounds, but i did get a double blow out on the way home, both nearside tyres let go on the side wall

was driving down a single track lane in the company car at about 40mph, and had to move to the verge for a lorry coming the other way , then i got pshttt ..... pshttt , and that was that

had to drive a quarter of a mile on fully flat tyres to find a safe place to pull over and called it into the AA ,

can't complain about the service, took 20 mins to get to me at rush hour , and then proceeded to change out the wheels, and drive me to the nearest quick fit for new rubber ( had to sign the company account blurb ) , then drive me back and fitted the wheels back on the car , job done

all in all about 1.5 hours

Nasty, glad you got it sorted quickly.

Slightly related, many new cars these days don't have any spare wheel, even a spacesaver would be better then a can of goo. Also I'm not sure about the low profile tyres that are common now, I think the older taller tyres could handle bumps better, I realise handling is improved but for normal everyday cars sensible tyres would be better.

Driving a car with low profile tyres certainly focuses ones mind. Potholes, manholes, kerbs etc. One learns to drive "well up the road". Yip, I`ve had a cracked rim, scraped rims and trashed a couple of tyres since I went from sensible 55% tyres. Higher profile tyres stand a better chance of survival than the low profile licorice strips that some of us run on. Driving 35% tyres is about as low a profile as is practical on our pothole laden roads.

Obviously Vinces double blow out occurred seemingly through hitting an unseen obstruction. Bad luck indeed and not much action that could have been taken to avoid the issue.
