petrol flap full of water !!!!

Postby Brakebuster » Wed Jul 09, 2014 7:21 pm

as she is now living outside a few issues have come to the fore,

and i feel i should post this as well as all my other success stories ,

went to fill her up the other weekend for the run to Kemble, opened the fuel flap , and hmm , its full of fresh water , and its lapping up against the full cap , oops

so , now i have had time to sort it , and at least i know its sorted

first thing to do was find an appropriate length of plastic tube to see if i could push out any blockage, but no joy as it only went in about a foot, turns out there is a Y connector allowing the boot lid channel to drain into the same pipe,

undid the Y connector and tried pushing the pipe down again , no joy , but this time it was getting to the bottom of the inner sill , hmm

pull off the pipe, some spillage of water and i tried pushing the pipe down the metal tube , no joy

as i have a body kit fitted i can get to the outside hole to rod it the other way

the use of a small screwdriver from the inside exposed the problem , it was fully blocked , what with , well , bondo , pug , filler, call it what you will , in their wisdom the body shop decided to fill this ' hole ' in the sill , lol

so , a 6mm drill bit in a small drill , and i now have a working boot and fuel filler drain

BB

now i'm waiting for two new seals from the US for the sunroof , and at £100 , i hope they work.......

Doh! That figures. I had to blow mine out with a compressor they were both so blocked up. As my drive is sloped, it still catches water in the corner between the boot and the rear windscreen. Maybe I should park it the other way up the slope. The water has made it through the seam sealer between the two panels in that corner so no idea if just wacking some more on will be enough to fix it.

At least you had a nice easy fix before it came into the boot! My boot carpets have lived in the house since I had the car. It's been with the mechanic the rest of the time!
