Door window setting

Postby ihouston » Sat Jun 28, 2014 7:28 pm

Gents I have an xk8 coupe 2002 model and the passenger door window has just started to lose its memory setting - I am able to re set it in the normal way by driving the window up and down waiting for the solenoid click and it works for a while then plays up again - symptoms as if you have dis connected the battery it only happens on the passenger side any ideas as to what may be the cause of my problem or likely culprit
Thanks
Ian

Ian

The usual suspect is the battery. The alternatives are the Alternator (does the voltmeter read as it should / does it drop significantly when you put load on the electrical system when the engine is running) & the Wiring (Faulty wiring can put excessive electrical resistance in the circuit & this results in lower voltage to the winder controller causing it to loose its memory.

In my experience (when the Battery starts to fail) one of the doors looses its memory before the other in all probability because one will draw more current than the other (due to different pressure of the glass against the door seals etc.).

Battery Specialist suppliers usually do not charge for testing the Battery so I would start there.

Thanks Allan the alternator is good and fairly certain
the battery is to
I have recently changed the door mirror on that side so have had the door switch for the window out --I cleaned up the plug and connections this morning and it seems to be behaving at the moment touch wood
I wondered if there was a control module that might play up and give these symptoms so that was why I asked if anyone had experienced the same issues
Cheers
Ian
