Part number C26779

Postby wolf » Mon Jan 15, 2007 6:57 pm

According to David Manners, its says with your part number, it will fit most i.r.s. axles except 3.8 e,

XK engineering say that your part number will fit, and I quote

"4.2 series 2, V12 'e' type and all XJ/XJS models"

My CD rom says part number JLM 10601 is the disk for the 4.0 and 6.0 litre XJS,

At least with an outboard calliper, If you were to remove the worn disk to do a comparison and dimensional check, It would be an easier job for you than those of us with an inboard disk.

As i said on another post, Having worked in the manufacturing and engineering side of the automotive industry for 14 years, I can safely say that all car manufacturers will avoid the expense of re-tooling and re-manufacturing if they already have a suitable part so if nothing else, get the micrometer out, remove the disk and have a look.

Sorry I can't be of more use or more specific

Richard

According to parts manual, the Part Number for the outboard disc set is JLM12424 (was previously JLM10601)
The part number for the inboard disc set is JLM730. (facelift)
From the pictures in the parts manual, the discs look different

I stand corrected and having learned something new, maybe its time for a new forum topic on parts interchangability between the Jaguar XJS range,

For example, years ago, I had a five speed Vauxhall vx4/90, Track rod ends for these were a nightmare to get hold of, till we found out that the part from a mini is exactly the same part but for about £15.00 less!!

what do you reckon?

Graham,

Good luck for tomorrow, but I would be absolutely amazed if you can get them to fit! Inboard disc brakes utilise separate pads acting on the disc as a handbrake. Outboard disc brakes utilise the inner surfaces of the disc housing to act as a drum whereby traditional brake shoes work inside this disc housing as the handbrake.

So as far as I know, outboard discs are a completely different shape and also have different mounting holes. Just to further disprove the the statement from one of our suppliers that 3.6 discs will fit all XJSs, there are two different types of outboard discs as well. Pre 1995.25 MY cars have non-vented discs (10mm thick) and post 1995.25 MY have vented discs that are twice as thick (20mm) and therefore different calipers as well.

Have fun tomorrow , anyway, but I wouldn't waste much time if I was you!

Paul,
thanks for the post yep you are entirely correct these discs will not fit post my xjs.It seems the suppliers need to be a bit more aware of their statements. I believe they use the same disc as the later x300 although a vin number is required for correct part.Dave Marks has also kindly replied to me and has confirmed this. Many thanks for everyones help.Graham

Graham,

Glad to be of help.

The part number you need is JLM 20342, or JLM 11904 (if you can find it).

DO NOT FIT JLM 12424 or JLM 10601. They will not fit your car. These part numbers are for non-vented outboard discs. You have vented outboard discs on your car.

If you get problems finding the discs, you should still be able to buy them from Jaguar at £152 + VAT per set. You should be OK for at least 10% JEC discount from your dealer.

Good Luck

Hi Graham..

Hope this is useful to other 95 on 4.0ltr celebration & 6.0ltr owners.

Rear disc info as follows.. These are performance drilled and grooved and the quality is excellent...Though non jaguar..hence the bargain prices..

Make JAGUAR

Max Thickness / Min Thickness 20 / 18.5
Hub Diameter 68

Studs / Holes 5
Price per pair £87.16 + vat
All drilled and grooved discs are sold as a matched pair .

Or standard vented 305mm dia..for the above models.Part SBG3542 X 2 @

WHEN ORDERING FOR XJS (REARS ONLY) USE XJ6/X300 3.2 94-97 INFO AS THEY ARE THE SAME AND ARE NOT LISTED UNDER XJS..No vin number required.

Order from www.buypartsby.co.uk online shop..

Foxcovert,

Good option & great price!

Just to say that we all need to be really careful when ordering parts for our cars where there have been lots of spec changes. Make sure that you know exactly what you need before ordering. Most parts suppliers are not aware of the subtleties of some of the changes.

I have bought satisfactorily from BuyPartsBy previously. However, if you look up Jag XJS on their performance brake parts, they say that their solid rear discs will fit XJSs from VIN 188105 up until 1996. They won't fit late cars! 1995/1996 cars have vented rear discs. Be careful! Brake parts can not usually be returned to suppliers.
