Where do I get wiper motor brushes from?

I have finally got round to stripping down the windscreen wiper system and the commutator brushes are completely worn out. So, I need some more but ...
The part number is easy to find (AEU1736) and the main Jaguar sources all have the part on their website; none in stock and no idea when any more might arrive.
Does anyone know where I can get some brushes from?

Plan B - get some washing machine brushes near the right size and file them I suppose.

Hopefully and not driving in the rain at the moment.

There is much information in Kirby's on-line book covering the many different models of wiper motor. Download it and see if it gives you any suggestions for your particular model.
Your plan B may be the best option!

Yes, I have "Kirby's book" and read the relevant section a couple of times and I have just ordered some carbon brushes (details will be updated if this works out ok). I think it will be a lot more satisfying to know that I repaired the original wipers instead of replaced them. An update will follow.

At first it seems a great idea to use washing machine etc. brushes..., but domestic appliance brushes are too high resistivity, they're not meant for low voltage current, they'll get too hot and burn the holder!

you can often find similar-sized brushes in other 12V motors of other cars such as blower motors or electric windows, if they are too big they can be filed down.

Just had a look at Martin Robey, entered your part number and they show both Jaguar part AND pattern part listed.

However, short of buying them, I can't find out if they have any in stock, might be worth a quick look though.

The part mentioned on the DM site is I believe the brush and brush holder plate assembly

David, I've a few spare window motors, Bosch and Lucas, in the workshop. Post some measurements of the brushes you need. If it looks like they may fit, I'll gladly send them to you. No charge.

If this is improper, please remove this posting forthwith and accept my apologies, I'm breaking whats left of a donor V12 (see classifieds) as i desperately need the space.

I've a single jet wash/wipe unit complete if you want it, just come and get it. Its removed from the vehicle and I'm in Walsall.

I can confirm it works but It would supply the correct brushes if you wish to cannibalise it to maintain originality.

Wow, thanks to every body for your help. Mark, thanks for pointing out that there are different carbons used in motors.

The brushes measure; 1/4" x 5/16" x 3/8" (I have to guess the length at 3/8" because they are completely worn down). That's 6.3x7.8x9.5 in mm.

I think I will try Martin Robey on Monday and see if they are in stock. I had already tried SNG, David Manners and JDHT, with no luck. If not, I have ordered some VC107 carbons (CAR15) 6.2x7.8x25.7. (I need to check the carbon material in these per Mark's note above). Then, plan c; Wolf/Pop thanks very much for your offers I may need them.

Curiously, the VC107's appear to be for a Hoover Constellation. Believe me, I know nothing about Hoover's and try to avoid them as much as I can, but it turns out that this is a real landmark in design, the "henry" hoover from 1954. Try typing "Hoover Constellation" in Google or whatever and see what I mean. I wonder why they have them available today off-the-shelf?

In the mean time I suppose I could wash and polish the car for its birthday treat (25 next month).
