Tyre pressures

Hi

I have been searching all over my X350 for some indication of what the correct tyre pressures for the car should be. Someone mentioned a sticker in the inner side of the filler cap cover, however mine does not have one, or has been removed at some point. On my previous X308 the tyre pressures as I recall were 32psi all round. Is this the same on the X350? any advice would be welcomed.

Phil,

Your signature doesn't say what model you have. The pressures differ for each size of wheels and tyres. If you let us know, I can tell you the right pressure recommendations.

Sorry, hadn't noticed it wasn't on the signature. Its a 2004 X350 3.0 V6.

Having used a very low tech method of sticking a tape measure across the centre of the wheel they appear to be 18 inch. Tyre size as written on the tyre wall is 235/55ZR17

You have 17" wheels as in 235/55 ZR17.

The tyre pressures are:

Comfort (up to 100mph) ... Front = 28psi. Rear = 30psi

Normal... Front = 32psi. Rear = 34psi

I have exactly the same sized wheels and tyres - 235/55-17 on an 03 XJ6 V6 at 85k miles.
Paul/PJTS has given you the pressures I have been using for about 10k miles now for up to 100 mph.
This size of wheel and section of tyre gives a very comfortable ride; you're not looking for holes in the road because the tyres will take it easily, and you don't feel the joints in the tarmac.
If you go for bigger wheels, 18s, or worse 19s, you feel the bumps and lumps; I speak from experience although on another XJ6 V6 with 19s.
My tyres are Nexen 8000 and cost £100 per corner fitted.
I also had the wheel alignment checked by laser alignment machine; the fronts were OK but the rears were both pointing rightwards by the same amount - cost £75 but the job's right now!

Hello all, I have the 18 235 50 tyres on my 2004 V6. The tyre pressures stated on the inside of the fuel cap seem to be out of alignment with the 17 and 19 inch versions at 4psi higher for normal running, yet the same pressures for the comfort setting. Is this correct? Cheers, Richard.

That's interesting! As the various sizes of wheels increase in width as they get larger, the tyre width increases, and the sidewall height decreases, one would expect either a linear increase in tyre pressure or else a consistent standard.

As you've identified, the high-speed pressures for the 18" wheel seem somewhat at odds, particularly as the Comfort pressure settings are more in line with the other wheel sizes.

In case Steve Brown somehow misses this thread, I would drop him an email and ask him to take up the matter with Jaguar Heritage as I suspect it's an error that Jaguar have made.

After a couple of weeks trialing, I've settled on 30F and 32R for normal day to day driving. I haven't contacted anyone else at Jaguar yet, as I think it's just a "printer error". Richard.

Good to hear that you've a happy setting.

It would be helpful if you let Steve Brown know of your findings as he may want to write something in his pages in the magazine. I suspect most X350s are running on those 18" tyres with owners using the wrong settings. Certainly, I had those tyres when I ran an x350 and I'm sure I ran them at those higher pressures because of that label.

Sorry if I've confused you! Steve Brown is the JEC Model Co-ordinator for X350 cars. He's the guy who is the co-ordinator for this forum and manages the pages in the JEC magazine etc. His contact details will be at the front of the magazine, or on the X350 pages. I'm not sure what his userid is on this forum and not even sure if he uses it frequently. I don't recall having seen posts from him, but may have missed them.
