Aerosol Puncture Repairs

Postby Gordon@1962 » Mon Jan 01, 2007 1:37 pm

Does anyone know of a reputable aerosol you can pump into a flat tyre to get you up and running temporary?
This is linked to an idea I have in another post.

I used one of these about 10 years ago and my tyre dealer refused to repair the small puncture I had because the stuff had made such a mess inside the tyre. :!:
Is this still a pitfall with using these things? :?:

On my motorbike I've always used Ultraseal http://www.ultrasealshop.com/ It's not be confused with the normal slime products or the ones that pump up a tyre after a puncture. With this, it stays in he tyre all the time to prevent most punctures and will even help to control the rapid deflation of a blow-out. It doesn't affect tyre balance and won't stop a normal repair being done.
I've not used it in a car personally, but then I've a spare!

It's that aerosol stuff in the round shaped top with the tube sticking out the top. Can get it from petrol stations. Keep in the boot of the car. Good for bicycle punctures if you don't want to bother with it until the tyre's worn out. I think it says somewhere on the can it's recommended by tyre fitters or something. It does leave a sticky rubber coating that dries up, that's the whole idea of it, but its nothing like that gooey green slime stuff. The tyre fitters naturally will moan if a tyre is dripping with slime inside, they don't want it all over thier overalls as it leaks through to thier clothes underneath.

The can of stuff says on the tin it's only meant to get you to the nearest tyre fitting place, but again naturally that's stated for legal reasons, I often spray some to fix leaks in anything inflate-able and it lasts the life of the tyre. Also good if the rim seal is leaking and you don't want to risk another dumb-ass tyre fitter hammering on more clip-on weights and bugger the rim up even more!
