Kent alloy hub caps - how to fit?

Postby Jaguar_Enthusiast » Fri May 16, 2014 7:47 pm

I'm fitting Kent alloys to my car for the first time (XJ series 2 - they were an original option on this car). I'm posting to this section as I'm hoping that there may be some XJ-S owners with the same wheels and experience.

Try as I might I can't get the hub caps to stay on the front wheels when I tighten the wheel nuts - largely I think due to the differing hub shapes front and rear - the caps become detached from the three pointed retaining clip.

Does anyone have any hints or tips on how best to get these hub caps to stay on please?

Thank you.

You may be lucky to find an XJ-S owner running on Kent alloys, they were only fitted on very early cars!

However, I had Kent's on a Daimler Sovereign as I remember that the caps with the Daimler " d " were like hens teeth to find, luckily Stoneleigh spares day turned some up, they went on fine, no problem.

What exactly is the problem? Is the wheel bearing push-on dust seal pushing the caps off as the wheel is tightened on?
Maybe wrong dust seals or deformed?

I also seem to remember that the retaining clips were pretty poor after repeated use and I had to swap them around a bit, could this be the problem?

Thanks for the guidance and quick reply. I realise I probably should have said this related to pre-HE XJ-S. Shame that there don't seem to be as many of them left as their contemporary XJ equivalents...
