Replacing front shockers & top plates

Postby WULLIE4567 » Fri Apr 25, 2014 8:36 pm

Hi
I am in the middle of changing my MY2000 front shock obsorbers & top plates, waiting on parts coming. I will be fitting new lower spring supports with two new spacers (black nylon material) then there's a white nylon spring positioner that the lower part of the spring sits into, it has 4 lugs that go into the spring and only sit in the one position thicker on one side tapering at the other.
Checked Barratts downloadable parts illustration & others no sign of this part. was going to upload a picture but canny remember how to :| .
I phoned the jag agent they don't have a clu I'll need to go and see them. Can any of you guy's help or know the part i'm on about :?

PS the old parts are split well gone.

Cheer
Wullie.

Hi Wullie,
To assemble the spring/shocker unit the Jaguar workshop manual only mentions adding the lower spring seat to the shocker at its base. Is it possible the 'cushion' should be attached to the metal spring seat and in your case the two have parted company? If so, that might explain why Barratt's etc don't have a separate part number for the 'cushion'. Mike.

Hi Mike
Thanks for reply. Think am going to struggle here, went to Jaguar parts dept this morning they found the part MJA2162BB only thing is it's not made anymore?? it's described as a Packer-Wedge.
The shocker has a circlip that supports the lower spring plate then two black nylon spacers about 3mm thick then the packer wedge which is about 6mm tappering to maybe 3mm this wedge has 4 lugs which fits into the spring the packer-wedge also has a stop where the spring sits against. The spacers and wedge are made from a plastic/nylon material.

I don't know where to go from here I can buy both the support plate #MJA2166BC and the two spacers # MJA2162AA but not this packer-wedge. :( without the wedge the spring will not sit properly and it act's as a locater for the lower spring. Is it worth contacting David Marks?

cheers
Wullie.

MNC2161AB is available from Jaguar heritage for £5.28 plus VAT , they are for the XJ8 , but its the same setup essentially

MNC2162AA is £1.50 plust VAT ( plain spacer )

just go to the heritage site, and look up the suspension section for the X308 and order for delivery to your nearest dealership for free, pay at the counter when picking up..

they will only look for the part you ask for, they are not usually into looking for cross comparable alternatives.......

hope this helps

Hi
I have attached a picture of a front shocker assy, note the white wedge spacer and black ones below it. Note how the wedge holds the spring in place, see other picture new spring with wedge spacer fitted to bottom of spring.
I checked out the Jaguar Heritage X300 but it's differant from XK8 don't think parts would do as the spring sits in the lower wishbone same idea.
Click on pic to enlarge.

cheers
Wullie.
